Buffalo nickel question.....clashed die...common??

I just picked up a neat raw MS63-4 1914 today that has a clashed die obverse. You can see part of "Pluribus" upside down and "indented" below the chin on the obverse. Is this a common occurence in the series? Thanks! Chris

    Chris,

Die clash is VERY common on Buffalo's. Especially on 1914.

In fact, when you can see "PLURIBUS" on the obverse, it is called "Chin wiskers" due to the fact that it makes the indian appear to have wiskers below his chin.

    Pretty cool isn't it.

If you look on the reverse, you may also see an impression of the Indian's jaw line jutting out of the buffalo's hind quarters.
