Card Savers

Does it seem out of line for PSA to return used card savers with submitted cards? I called and asked about it a few months ago, and was told that they just didn't do it. Those things can add up, and it doesn't seem like that much to ask. Any thoughts?

Yeah, I've wondered what they do with all of the card savers, trash them I guess. Since shipping is so much now, maybe we can get them now. It would help drfray our costs and would mean more submissions for PSA.

I hate CardSavers because you must push against the resistance to get a card into it, no matter how you try to hold it open, and the card's corners take the brunt. You ever put a 9 or 10-level card in one of those without worrying you were knocking a grade off in the process? Especially non-white cards like 1971. I don't know why PSA insists on those damn things.
  • I've got to agree...those card savers suck! The only good thing about them is, once they are in there, they aren't going to just fall out. Actually, that's probably why PSA doesn't return them. They probably cut them to get the card out as opposed to pulling them out through the top.

This question came up awhile back. Someone from PSA responded that they recycle the Card Savers, and by that I assumed that they sent them someplace to be melted down.

The stickers PSA uses in the grading process don't come off the CS1's cleanly--I get one back occasionally with a MINSIZREQ sticker on it--so unless they changed their stickers, you wouldn't want to reuse the holders, anyway.

I'm guessing that there are security reasons for not returning all of the CS1's. Maybe someone from PSA could explain how the process works and why it's not practical to return them?

I heard the same thing about PSA cutting the Card Savers to get the cards out, but I don't know if it's true. The cards you get back ungraded (like a minsizereq card) are still in the uncut Saver...so who knows? I actually crack/break one of the corners slightly before I put a card into one, as that makes it a bit easier to insert the card.

I have found it very helpful to first put my card into a penny plastic sleeve.
i`ve done this for some time now. psa has no problem with this approach.
hope this helps. your friend, lee

I use the penny sleeves also, and do not worry too much about getting the card far into the Card Saver.

It can be pretty awkward trying to hold the CS1 open with one hand and push the card in with the other, but if done just right the card will go in with little pressure and clear the top by about 1/4 inch. That's enough for me.
