What do you think?

I am in receipt of an unopened 1984 Donruss wax box from Kruk Cards. I opened one in January that was great (3 Mattingly's, 2 Gwynn's, 1 Ryan, 2 Boggs, 1 Rickey, 2 Rose, 1 Ripken). Do I even out or continue '84 glory?

Yeah, I was for real about the autos. I am trying to put together the ultimate Master set. I have all SP's, Base cards, Chromes and a good start on G/U. It's those darn autos that are killing me.

No, I am cherry picking the Black and Refractors and am not that committed yet. I have too many irons in the fire right now.

I just sent in a 181 card submission loaded with Frank Thomas' for my Basic and Master sets along with some Clemens, Ryans and misc cards for sale. I am opening a vendor case of '86T to grade (adding it to the cards I picked out of an '89F 12 box cello case). I bought the '84D wax box because someone bid up to just below me to try to barely outbid me, so I put in my final bid with a few seconds to go. I still got it for much lower than my last box cost me, but I was hoping for more of a deal. I also completed the regular set of Cracker Jacks and want to put together the sticker and blue insert sets. Thank goodness I won $1400 at the Beau Rivage a couple of weeks ago or I would be in real trouble.image

    Whew,

You win the lottery?!?! Between me and Stalin, we could probably give you a good start on the #/555 set - now the #/55 - that would be a mega challenge! If you are including that one - you are my hero!
LMK, if I can be of any help - BTW, I haven't forgotten you on that big hurt donruss elite - just haven't found it yet.

    Chris
Kevin has the only "Crayola" helton purple jersey on the planet!
You got some real mileage out of one retail box! Next year, I would consider a case to start - get a set on ebay with the pieces and pay for my own set! This is one of the best 'user' friendly sets on the market. On top of it, it's great to look at!
Thanx for the post - just when ya thought we were done talkin' about heritage.

edit: Bighurt - sorry - in keeping with the situation - the 84D is a favorite of mine - the Mattingly was one of the first cards that I had experience with respect to early couterfeits. The set lost the luster of the early 90's but still a keeper. I'm with Steve, save for a rainy day and commence to rippin'.

    kuhlman,
What non-SP's are you missing, I probably have them all.

    Mike,

I finally picked up a Thomas Black Refractor. I also have 6 Thomas /555, it's almost like Mel Gibson in Consiracy Theory. Must get Catcher in the Rye or Big Hurt, whichever.

That is the first sign of collector's insanity - wait till you receive your first email from one of yours sets telling you to "come out and play - we're so lonely without you"
LMK, on the elite card - I remember when I was offered 250$ from a dealer and turned it down - now what's it worth? 20$? But that's the collecting game.

LOL, I love that movie. I am really taking a shotgun approach to collecting right now. I will be satisfied with the Thomas Set until after Christmas. When I get this submission graded, I'll have over 20% done which isn't bad for a 950+ card set.

I wanted to get into the top 5 of the Nolan Ryan Master Set but Jeff and Steve are relentless. For now, I'll just try to get to a set rating of 2.50.

As for the Heritage, any help would be greatly appreciated. I am bidding on ebay when possible but I am only winning 20-30% of the auctions I'm bidding on. If/when I complete it, it will be on my terms. I have prices in mind for each group of relics and misc stuff which limits bidding wars.

Anyway, off to bed, with visions of Jenna dancing in my head.

BigHurt huh? I have a couple of nice cards.....2001 donruss sig auto where he signs big hurt under
the graph...you probably already have that one,but I also have a 2000 Pacific Inv Thomas patch card..
three colors but the best thing is that it is numbered 43/2000......Ill make you guess why that is
    special.

I have about 4 heritage black refractors, they sell very well on ebay, LMK if you need them

I also, as Mike already said, have alot of the refractors and the chromes, LMK about those too. Yes there
are clearly unannounced short prints, If I had my thousands of cards in number order I might be able
to compare notes but I have heritage all over the place!

I have a few Ichiro SP's, but the only helton purple, (beisdes the one I forged), came from one of the
great traders here, I still have not pulled one in about 800 packs!

    Kevin
  • I think you should open each pack and post your results of each one like I did for my 1980 Topps hockey waxbox.

I'll post the results for the 19 packs of 1978 Topps I opened from Overtime. Crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap. I still have 17 "unopened" packs if any of you sucke...er nice people would like to buy them. I'll guarantee I never went through them.image

    Brent

BTW- How exactly does a wax stained card get in the middle of a pack?

And anyone else, this summer I would like to sell 1979 rack packs - I am giving one away on the NBA contest that is burried - I have a case. I want to check with the big houses and get the market value. I will drop it by 25-33% off that for the board people. Want to make some dough to offset the overbudget this year on heritage. I'm a tuff guy, I swear it has nothing to do with the Mrs.!
Brent, have you checked to see if those packs have been searched?

    Mike,

These packs were built I believe. I would not sell them to anyone unless they were well aware that they were getting commons that were EX-NM. I just hate wasting time and money on junk.
