eBay items not fitting description

Last week, I bought two BIN items from a seller that seems to be OK based on feedback.

Both items were described

<< <i>This is a 100% BLAST WHITE COIN with no specks, spots, streaks, toning, finger prints or haze. This coin is bright white. >>

The items arrived today, and they don't really fit this description. One, a silver Ike, has numerous small spots/specks on the reverse. The other, a Mercury dime has some light milky hazing on both sides.

Now don't get me wrong...I don't think either coin is unattractive. In fact, I think they're both pretty nice. But they definitely don't fit the description that I based my purchase on. The seller does offer returns, by the way.

I'm feeling a little wishy-washy today, and I'm in kind of a funky mood...so I don't want to make any rash decisions about the coins. I guess I just need to decide whether I want to keep them, no big deal really.

Anyone have a similar experience, and what did you do?

I'm going for a jog now!

Are they properly graded? If so, and you like the coins, keep them. Seller probably copied the desciption from other auctions and never changed it.

Only once did I ever return a coin on eBay. It was a silver Roosevelt Dime and it had a splotch on the cheek. The seller gave me a full refund and I left him positive feedback.

    Anybody else?

I want to tell the seller that it's annoying that the coins clearly don't match the description, and almost feel like I should return them on principle. At the same time, I don't really want to cause any trouble, because as I said, they aren't bad coins.

I also have to honestly admit that I really don't feel like going through the trouble of returning them. So I guess I've made my decision, huh?

From the auction description you posted I know the seller (forgot his ID) and have bought from him before. It's his standard auction
phrase. I got a coin with an obvious fingerprint & I sent it right back to him. He was nice about it, as he should be for claiming it had
no prints on it when it clearly did.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

  • If you are not happy with coin - send it back. Was there a pic of coin listed?? Did it match?? If no pic, then you have a right to send back - or if pic didn't match. Was the price right? good deal?

I had similar incident two days ago - bid on a book of Jeffersons that said 'UNC'. I had emailed Seller to verify that they were indeed UNC, and did not receive reply back from him until AFTER auction had ended (and I had won) that they were CIRC! I immediately emailed him back and said "We have a problem". Luckily he admitted his error and said I didn't have to pay for them, and no negs would be exchanged.

It's happened to me several times, especially with raw coins. I just chalk it up as experience and give them to my kids or their friends. Always looking to peek the minds of the youth crowd when it comes to numismatics..image
