Shill bidding gone horribly wrong.

Here I was merely trying to help out an old gentleman--a member in good standing.....and look what happened, to my dismay....

I need some professional help....

When will I learn? I most certainly don't need, or even want this hunk of metal. imageimage

  • If you are going to help out somebody in that manner, I would suggest not waiting until the final 24 hours of the auction.Give yourself plenty of time to have someone top your bid.

Another possibility: You could ask Wybrit to offer it as a 2nd chance to the person who lost. Wybrit would only be out $5

Have the elderly gent see if ronbrom will take it at $225 (assuming EG wants to even sell it at that price), and you pay EG his additional final value fees combined.

Am I misunderstanding the situation here?

You didn't want the coin, but you were only bidding the price up against legitamite buyers? And now that you won, you don't want to buy the coin?

I think that is really sleazy. You should buy the coin, then crawl under a rock. I hope you get a negative for the transaction.

Does anyone here think that this shouldn't be reported to eBay?

(not that they'll do anything of course)

Not that this shtuff doesn't go on all the time. It is sleazy and really whizzes me off too.

Is this a joke, or shill bidding or what's the deal?

I think (though I may be the only person here who doesn't know who Hetman really is) that a bid was placed without an expectation of a win.

I often see the SSP threads, take a look, see something I wouldn't mind having and throw down a bid. I don't expect to win, but if I do, it wouldn't bother me. It's not shilling because I would make the buy, I might get something cheap, and if it helps move an auction along, that's okay. I don't think I'm hurting other bidders because I'd be happy to take the auction at my token bids.
