<< <i>to you you after you beat him a couple of times?? >>
Generally after one "beating" from me they tend to not want to deal with me anymore anyway. In this small area that i live in i have pretty much exhausted my dealer resources, and have to hide out from the Cops.
Sorry Al............. You have to admit that your question left it pretty much open for this kind of tongue in cheek answer

I guess the key would be if he figured it out on his own, or did you rub his nose in it?

I have a customer who is very close to being in that realm right now. Spent a half a million dollars with me and is just an all around pain in the rear end.

.....pretty typical in my experience.
My wife used to beg her mother to take her to the "rich" neighborhoods to sell her school candy, but they never bought much.....as her mother later ask her, "Why do you think they're rich?"
Why on earth would you ever tell him that he got beaten in the first place, and even worse, that you were the one who beat him?
hey centmaster
welcome to the forums, you've just passed the "jumping to conclusions" course and will be promoted to the next level. that course study includes "putting words in people's mouths" and other nonesense.
in my case, there was one particular coin that we found out together what it's true value was. another coin he may have found out about from another dealer or collector. perhaps i need to not tell/show anyone anything i have. in a small collector community that's about the only way to keep many kinds of things quiet. i have cherrypicked quite a bit from this guy but at the same time i've helped him identify/attribute stuff in his shop and submitted coins for him when he wanted to. in the last 6 months he's pretty much quit giving me an early crack at stuff he has and i've also found some stuff out through the grapevine.
In that case, I guess the dealer's ego has gotten the better of him. Some people can't accept a mutually beneficial relationship - if they see you getting anything out of the deal, they can't handle it even though they benefit as well. I can't see logically why he would cut you off, but some people are illogical.
So he'll lose the help you give him with IDing varieties, and he'll still be getting cherried - just not by you.

NOTHING. (I even make house calls).
as once said by one of the leading statemen of the 50's: "a million here, million there, pretty soon you're talking about real money."
a few dealers minds from time to time.
Camelot
Many years back a local dealer told me how stupid I was for collecting varieties.
Over the years I cherrypicked hundreds of coins. As time went on he figured how wrong he was.
It got to where if I ask to see a coin he would tell me it was sold. (till he had a chance to look it over really well)
After a while we made a deal. I helped him spot the cool stuff and he worked with me on coins I really wanted.
I just lost this friend of 40 years. He was selling me coins when I was 10 years old.
A problem with a dealer can be overcome. At that point they might just turn into a real friend.
