Found this in my Mint bag of Jeffersons

Going through my Philly mint bag looking for "decent" examples of the new nickel. As has been said on here before, the surfaces are LOUSY!! image

I found this nickel that was "toned" Any explanations on this one? Also, has anyone noticed that a great many of the nickels seem to be incompletely struck?

Improperly rinsed planchet is my best guess...

  • I have a similar one from a roll of 2003 ~ big splotch of gold/green on the obverse ~ nothing like getting em toned from the factory image
  • Yes, I have found a few of them in bank rolls. You can spot them right off by the edges - stand out like sore thumb. Here is a thread I posted about them....... sorry pics have been deleted, but they look similar to yours. As far as incompletely struck - that's putting it lightly - more of them are like that than not ..... the main place I notice it is on the sleeve cuffs on reverse. Mine are all D mint, I think.
