What is it?

I was looking at my 1/10 oz. american eagle proof with a 30X microscope. And I noticed some strange symbol I never seen before in the rays of the sun. It's hard to describe but it looks like a D crossed out with a V over it. It's right above the vines in the lower right portion of the greek gods feet. Just curious, as I've never seen it before. It's fairly large, you can see it with a 10x or maybe a 5x power. What is it??

<< <i>I think it's the designer's initials, Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
Perhaps the price is just too steep.
Is your conscience at rest if once put to the test?
You awake with a start to just the beating of your heart.
Just one man beneath the sky,
Just two ears, just two eyes.
<< <i>ah, thanks
