Finally Completed my 1969 Topps Baseball Set Completed in PSA 8(NQ) or Better

gemintgemint Posts: 6,101 ✭✭✭✭✭
After more than 15 years of searching and five years of submitting and seeking PSA graded cards, I've finally completed my 1969 Topps baseball set in PSA 8 or better. Thanks to Dave Jacobs for selling me his PSA 9 #127 Kevin Collins and #321 Jim McAndrew which were the last two upgrades I needed. Thanks also goes to Bob Cacamese who sold me some other tough cards over the years including the PSA 9 Mike Andrews and Randy Hundley, and PSA 8 Dick Radatz, Tom Satriano and Tom Tresh. I also picked up several upgrades from Dave Read and Kyle Boetel supplied many raw cards that helped me to upgrade my set along the way. This is one tough set to complete in high grade. I plan to continue to leisurely upgrade the 8's to 9's through my own submissions and occassional purchases of high population 9s. I don't plan on making a run at the #1 spot and I'll redirect my focus to my other sets now.

    John;

    Congratulations! A nice accomplishment. I know just how tough this set is as a good friend of mine is trudging along at 75% (Gobin Collection)... that last 25% must have been difficult and expensive. Nice job!

  • Congratulations John. You have achieved quite an accomplishment. More importantly, you have extraordinary knowledge and experience with one of the most challenging sets of the 1960s.

  • Great job-- CONGRATULATIONS JOHN!! It won't be long before your set will top my set as #1. I think that since Stump27 (Dave Jacobs) "abdicated", We are mearly "pretendors to the throne". However, being the FIRST to complete a PSA8 OR BETTER set with 664 very difficult cards is a significant achievement for which no one can top you. Best, Ron Hobbs

  • To Ron Sanders-- Please get rid of that disturbing gator logo. Beating FSU 2 out of 3 in baseball this year is painful enough.

    Thanks Ron. I don't think I'll be approaching your set rating any time soon. I agree that we will probably always be the supporting cast to Dave's incredible set. It was sad to see him break it up but it will always reside in the all time finest list for all to enjoy. I'm just happy that my set resides in the company of so many fine sets on the registry.
  • Congratulations. What a tough set. John got me started on this set by putting his set for sale on Ebay in an attempt to get people interested in the registry. It worked..He sold me my first few graded cards and I was hooked. An amazing set with a really high class group of people working on trying to complete it.

    Congrats again,

    Thanks for the mention. I'm happy to say I sent alot of the tough ones to you, Dave and Ron. In fact I'm pretty sure alot of Rons was my original set. Is that a correct statement Ron? I'm slowly but surely creeping back up. Hopefully I'll get to that 100% too. I have quite a few of the POP 1's and I hope to get a big push in the next few weeks to put me at about 70%. The last 100 cards are always the toughest.
  • Congrats on completing this fine set!

    What will your next project be????

    Wow - that's terrific. It's one thing to complete a set in graded (I have 1967) but another to
    get all 8's - am still working on that;the second goal may take as long as the first. way to go!

    1967and 1973 Topps baseball wantlists (any condition) welcome. Once had the #14 ATF 1967 set. Yet another collector like skylaneflyer, gimel1 who made it to the completion of 1967 only to need the money more than the company of 609 close friends.
    Looking for oddball Norm Cash and Cleon Jones stuff, and 1956 team cards

    Thanks. I'm not sure if I'll focus on a particular set or just continue finding raw cards wherever and whichever can be located. I've managed to get many of my sets up to 5-10% completion without buying a single graded card. If I focus on a particular year, it will be either 1968 or 1967.
