sgc 92 = psa ?

What are the chances of an SGC-92 crossing over to a PSA 9?

According to SGC, a 92 has "65/35 or better centering, four sharp corners*. A few minor flaws may exist upon close examination. A minor flaw may be, but is not limited to: a slight nick to one corner, a small gloss break or surface scratch, a minor print line or minor refractor line, a minor focus or color imperfection, or a small print spot."

The card is about 50/50, maybe 45/55 at worst. The corners look sharp, but it is hard to tell without it being in hand. There is a very minor print dot, and that might be the "minor flaw" that moves it down to 92.

My experience with PSA is that they care about the corners, but not so much the edges. And print dot/blotches are fine as well, but not the white "snow" that yields the PD qualifier.

Possible and probably more likely if you crack it and submit rather that try to use their cross-over service. Mikeschmidt posted some impressive SGC-92 to PSA-9 crossover results (cracked and submitted) not too long ago...but I think he has very good eyesimage

I'm going to just guess and say 15 to 20% on a crossover attempt on average.

The Grader of Death has been stingy with the 9s, but if corners and centering look good, I say crack and send to PSA. The print dot problem might be a killer though.

PSA is not impressed by half-points from other graders, in my experience. I think your 92 / 8.5 crossover would only get 8 from PSA. So you have nothing to lose by cracking out and submitting raw. Worst case, you get the 8 ... but you just might nail a 9!

It really depends on the quality of the card. If you can look at in person and evaluate it, then you can cherry pick and have a good shot at PSA 9s. If you buy randomly based on a scan, then you're just rolling the dice. Though a small sample size, I've purchased four SGC92s, cracked them out and crossed them to PSA. They all crossed to 8's. I wasn't trying for 9s, so I was pleased with the results.

I would say that Gemints assement is accurate.I would not expect a SGC 92 to pull a "9" unless you get lucky. At any rate,I would crack it for sure.

  • I had a SGC 92 rollover to a PSA 9. Probably pure luck though....I did crack it out of the SGC holder before sending to PSA though
