Question about the morality of using others scans???

Just wanted to get some views on this issue. I am not talking about using them for any type of fraud or illegal activity. My question is this: Is there such a thing as a copyright on scans? My spare time project has been putting together "movies", if you will, of different PSA sets. They are burned on a cd in order with the highest grade I can find. For instance, I love the '60 Topps set, so that's what I;m currently working on. I've got over half of the set in 9 or 10. They play as a slide show with various baseball theme songs playing in the background. Each scan is on the screen for 3 seconds. Do I legally have to delete all the cert #'s?? Any advice would be most appreciated.

I see no problem with what your doing......then again I do not know the ins and outs of copyright law. If it is for your own enjoyment I see no problem...............maybe a few of our resident ESQ's can chime in.

If it's just for personal use, I don't see a problem. If you're going to sell the CDs, you'd need to contact the owners.

My take is that if you are using selling the exact same item, like new DVD's or sealed wax boxes it is OK. However, you need to move the image to your own web server to avoid using their bandwidth for your auction.

Others may not feel this way.
  • I agree with sagard, if you are using a PSA graded scan for your own auctions I believe you are in the wrong. However, using a scan of a wax box or something general like that is probably ok.
  • Don't misunderstand, I'm not using scans for any type of sale or public display. I'm just making a cd for particular sets using these scans.

If you are using it for yourself and are not selling it or putting it on public display, you can use it.
