1971-72 OPC Hockey Grade Weights

Why are all the cards in this set weighted the same? Is it a lack of interest? I would expect that the Dryden rookie card would be weighted the highest, followed by the Lafleur and Dionne rookies and the large number of HOFers. Also, what about the checklists? Any thoughts?

  • Someone needs to step up and do some homework for PSA.

  • There are alot of hockey sets that are not weighted yet. For the most part there is very little competition among the set builders so there hasnt been a need to do it.

With the 71-72 set there is zero competition Teemu and ADSL both have complete sets that they are grading at their leisure . Myself and Darren are working together to complete are sets. So the set hasn't been weighted simply because no one has taken the time to do it.

In terms of value the 111 checklist should be #1 followed by , Dryden , Lafleur , Dionne , Checklist 264 , Orr #100. With that being said i paid slightly more for my Orr 100 than the Dionne Rookie but not much more

i am stuck in Austin for the next 3 weeks, with absolutely nothing to do. i would be happy to weight the set and run it by everyone before i submitt it to Gayle. i don't have access to the pop reports, so low pop commons would be weighted a 1. but other than that i could probably do a complete weighting (using pop reports and ebay transactions) with about 90% accuracy.
  • I would happy to review it. I do not think low pop commons means anything with this set. Everything is still relatively low pop. Clearly, the checklists, HOF rookies and other HOFers merit something other than a 1 weght. I think I would agree that the Series 1 checklist is the toughest card, but do checklists typically get weighted in other 4 sets?? The most important cards other than that checklist in order are Dryden, Dionne, Lafleur, Orr, Hull, Howe, then other rookies and HOFers.

  • There has been very little weighting done in hockey sets. They have recently weighted the 1967 Topps set and the 1969 OPC set. They have not done for example the 1965 or 1966 Topps yet nor the 1968 OPC. I am unsure what it takes to get the weights done but it may take an email to PSA to prompt them. I would think the more popular sets get weighted first and the 1971 OPC set certainly is popular.
I am just waiting to see how much the weight the Orr rookie in the 1966 set.

  • Anyone get this done yet??
