"Top Pop" Lincoln

I was just scanning through heritage when I came upon this 25-S. Anybody got any idea what something like that is worth? It seems that Heritage thinks pretty highly of it...

David

Edited to add that this is a NGC MS66BN 1925-S cent...

Holy cow. Who would buy that knowing it cost only $216 in 1999. They have it listed right there!

  • My guess is that it will sell for far less than that. You may even see it in an Internet auction in the near future. Looks like they are just trolling at this point.

Why would anyone want a dark brown coin???

I know these are tough in red, but that coin doesn't even have a touch of red.

That was a different coin, a 65BN. I looked at it right after I saw the post.

Nice typo to make, saying ms66...$216.

I'd be happy to pay $216 for it :-).

I do know where a NGC 65BN for that date is. The guy has it listed at $1665, which I thought was too high. An example at heritage sold for $632 in January. There are actually seven in NGC 65BN with the loan 66BN.

  • This coin maybe would cross to a 65BN at PCGS, but probably would be a 64. PCGS doesn't even know about 66BN, especially on this coin. The reverse is too weak and nothing "jumps out" at us. PCGS seems to grade nice brown coins from the early dates as 64BN unless they have great color, too. If it's almost a RB, then they might compromise and bump it up to a 65BN. I'd certainly be at under $1000 for this one, probably much less if I saw it in person.
  • 11.5 grand for a pop one coin, granted its not PCGS, but how does NGC compare to PCGS? how much would that be worth if it crossover? also the majority of old copper coins have tarnished brown anyway

I can't believe that there would be much demand for that coin. The registry gives a 4-point bonus for red for this coin; thus, the top sets have a 65RD, which for PCGS, is a pop 10/0 coin. Additionally, at that price, I couldn't see someone trying to cross it over to PCGS.

  • I thought red is 2 point bonus, not 4? did that change? if red was worth 4 points an ms63rd would be far cheaper and better too image
