1976 Buckmans Discs

Can anyone give me any insights on this set and what the market is bringing for these in PSA 9 OR 10's. Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks

There does not seem to be a huge demand unless you're building a player's master set. I'm a Bench guy and I see a PSA 10 Buckmans Disc for him about once every two weeks, with few if any bids. I bought mine for less than $10 plus shipping. In other words, the cost of grading and the disc is almost free. Perhaps Nolan Ryan or someone else in the Buckman's set would go for more.

My thought is that because they are circular discs, there are no corners to ding so they earn 9's and 10's easier than regular cards.

Buckmans is one of a series of disc sets in 1976 that are all the same on the player side. Where they differ is the sponsoring company on the reverse. There's also Isaly's Sweet William, Crane Potato Chips, Dairy Isle and a couple more that I can't remember. These all look the same from the front, as far as I know.

I bought a complete set of Sweet William last week for an absurdly low price because there doesn't seem to be interest in the market. They all look as good as my graded Buckman 10s, but I will only bother to grade Bench and a couple others from S.W.

I wonder if there was a huge "find" in recent years, resulting in all these 9 and 10 discs from 1976 on the market? Maybe one of the disc experts has some insight.

Thanks for the insight. I just picked up a Bench in a 10 last week myself. Just curious as to the prices on these as I didn't see them listed in SMR.

Disc's are basically regular cards, they just fly better when you throw them. Actually, the centering is a little tuff on them sometimes (they seem to be printed prodominently low on the backs), and they look terrible when they are uncentered. The backs tend to have lots of fish eyes, which seems to be the big difference between getting 9's and 10's. Lastly, the die they used to cut out the discs left a faint hair line mark running across the front of many cards.... you can't even see it unless you tilt the card in the light and are really looking for it. If you look at the pop reports you'll see all of the PSA 5's where people missed them. All in all though, I'd imagine there will be plenty of 9's and 10's to go around to everyone that wants them.

Speaking of which..... If anyone has any of the following PSA 10 Buckman Football Discs available, please PM or e-mail me as I still need them to finish my set:

    Billy Kilmer
    Franco Harris
    Roger Wehrli
    Steve Bartkowski
    Wally Chambers

    Thanks,
    Mike
