'85 and '87 Donruss

Cards from these factory sets have a slightly curvy corners. Does PSA deduct anything for this?

Also, any tips for removing the little pieces of crud that are on the cards? Anyone who's busted one of these factory sets knows what I'm talking about.

The 1987 and 1985 Donruss factory set cards do have rounded corners. PSA does not deduct for that at all since that is how they are originally made. I deal with 1987 Donruss alot. Don't worry about that. Just make sure there are no bends on the corners. Everything must be straight. Even though the corners are slightly more rounded than the wax pack version, they can be dinged up and are still fragile.

To remove crud on these cards, use something very soft so that the surface is not scratched. 100% cotton cloth should do the trick, but you have to be very gentle and careful when wiping the surface of the card. Do not use paper towels, napkins, tissues or toilet paper. Some things are just too abrasive and flaky, but I keep hearing ill-informed people use them.

How does PSA know a card is from a factory set and so not deduct for rounded corners?

Are these "rounded" corners like the ones found in 87 and 89 Donruss The Rookies sets? I submitted a Maddux and Griffey a while back, both of which were very sharp except for slight roundness to the corners. I got 8s instead of expected 9s, most likely due to the corners. I guess a lot depends on who is looking at it that particular day, and I'm sure there' some variance in the roundness with some being sharper than others.

    Look everyone,

Here are the facts about 1987 and 1985 donruss cards:

    1. The factory version has slightly smaller cards (top to bottom and also side to side).

    2. The factory version has more rounded corners, but it is a different type of roundness than the one cause by wear. It is very easy to tell factory cards from wax ones. It is also easy to see something caused by wear and something caused by the way it was cut.

    3. There is virtually no chipping on the factory cards. They are cut differently than the wax ones. The different cutting technique also accounts for the differences in corners.

If corners are rounded due to damage or wear, you can see the difference compared to the factory cut donruss. You have to see some samples and then you will know what I mean.

The 1989 Donruss rookies also have more rounded corners just like factory set versions.

    Wallst32,

Sorry to hear about your 8's, but keep in mind that it may be due to a flaw that was initially overlooked like surface scratches and not because the corners were different from the wax version.
