2400 is a great price for that coin IMO. Good catch.

so what do you think is up with the two crescents evident on both the left and right fields of the obverse? Liquid chemicals perhaps?

Really don't know, but will put a better picture up when it gets here, the other coins from the collection did not have the color of this one and they were from the same collection, he(J. Smith) had 5 of them on the auction at the same time. If it was artificial and that beautiful he should have done the rest of them that way.image

I see what you are talkin about Cache, if it was a Morgan i might share an opinion, but this is all still so new to me i wouldn't even guess.... I kinda have to follow the old saying.......Better to look like a fool, than open your mouth and remove all doubt!!!!!!image
  • Congrats, hope it looks great in hand.

Boz, congrats on the purchase of a very nice looking coin. I share Cacheman's reservations about the strange coloration on the obverse--if it turns out to be some kind of tampering, will you be able to get a refund?

Nice coin! As to the cresents. On my screen the left cresent is a full circle touching the right cresent which extends to the left side lettering.
could this be marking from 2 coins on the top of this one in storage? similar to the ribbon toning on this coin?

I thought the marking were the reflection of the camera lens.
