1987 Topps Question

I am sure everyone has noticed that 1987 Topps borders come in a variety of "shades" from very light to very dark. My question is, when PSA grades a card, is one of those shades the "right" one and other shades earn deductions, or are they all the same from a condition standpoint?

I've wondered about this enough that I have yet to get any of my '87 Bonds graded, but now a friend of mine did get one graded (the shade was fairly light) and got an 8 on a card that I was positive would get a 9 with a shot at a 10. Anyone know for sure?
This is for you @thisistheshow - Jim Rice was actually a pretty good player.

Here are a couple examples of 1987 Topps 10's. It doesn't appear that the shading makes a difference.

(Just noticed I have some cardboard lint from the packing on the Romanick card. I'll have to rescan that. And no, the Ruhle card is not trimmed, my scanner software shrunk the image).

I do not think that the shade will hinder a grade, the 62 topps and 55 bowman have similar shades. I noticed that in 85 topps some have a rich green back while others are lighter . again, I doubt that they take that into consideration, they may if a card is perfect and also has the richly colored green back make it a gem. I must have opened and sorted tens of thousands of topps cards from 83 thru 91 and have just abt seen it all.

    Good for you.

Shouldn't make a difference in the grade. To me I've seen cream white border 10s and Snow white 10s too.

Not as drastic as the difference in series of 68s the 87 has 2 or 3 shades of ply wood borders. If you are doing panel on a wall just make sure all the shades match. image
