Oregon State Quarter Design Finalists

Oregons 4 Finalist State Quarter designs

I kinda wish they would have maybe considered the Oregon Commemorative design in some way.

Comments

  • Do the images (not the designs) look totally crappy and pixillated on anyone else's browser, or is it just me? I can't even see them.
  • It'll probably end up being a fish, pine tree, and wagon in the awful fashion of the Florida quarter. Ugh.
    You shout in your sleep.
Perhaps the price is just too steep.
Is your conscience at rest if once put to the test?
You awake with a start to just the beating of your heart.
Just one man beneath the sky,
Just two ears, just two eyes.

Yep. Try clicking on the image to bring up a "full-screen" version. Had me confused for a mintue when I got to the site as well. image

Man ... we are as a nation, at least in what the states and US Mint submit as finalists, artistically bereft ... image Received my first Florida in circulation today ... what a waste of usable space ... where is the boldness and flair?
  • Ok, now that you guys told me the secret, I have this to say...they are certainly LARGE!

I like Mt. Hood best, however I bet the fish wins....better advertisement for tourism/sportfishing.

Maybe they should just slap the oregon trail commem design on their state quarter and be done with it.
  • I like this one best, it goes good with the Colorado design that should win.

All four of those are actually pretty good. I think the Crater Lake one or the Salmon one will win as they are the least busiest of the four. Sphinx357 I can't quite see the picture in your post. Could you make it a little bigger please.

  • Daniel, your designs always rock! ....... how close are you on making those pattern coins?? I saw your HUGE coin but weren't you working on making small pieces for us collectors?
  • richbeatrichbeat Posts: 2,288
Crappy pictures and when you click on them, they open up waaaaay too big. Any one of those four is about as good as the others, except for the bottom right. If I had to pick one, it would probably be Crater Lake. image

What losers. I don't like any of them. I think they should have had a duck walking under an umbrella. DCARR your design is hands down better than any of those selected. I think the submitters forgot they were designing coins and instead ended up designing plates.

Pick the uggliest one and that is your winner.
  • I like that one that is huge listed here....looks real nice...natural beauty and doesn't have that Microsoft clip art look like most of the state quarters (Florida's is absolutely total crap in my opinion...I hate it...)

I like the Salmon the best, a very innovative design. The Mt. Hood example is very similar to the one Clackamas designed for us a while back.

Gee, Thanks. ..... All of us "losers" living here in Oregon will try not to take offense.

Bottom left pic looks most appealing and least cluttered.

I think this is the best explanation of the quarter designs that I've seen so far.

  • Crater Lake won? I hadn't heard.

Oh well ............... Hopefully they'll do a good job on it and it won't suck too bad. image

The mighty Ducks aren't losers, just those submitted designs (at least as they appeared in the postings) were IMHO. I suspect the coin itself will look a lot better than the pixelated or super-sized versions posted. Crater Lake is a beautiful spot but like most scenics it is tough to cram such an expansive design onto a small coin. I'm willing to reserve judgment though until the end product appears.

The committee chose Crater Lake, pending tha governor's approval. Kinda cool since the lake is in my county about 50 miles north. Incredible place, the quarter won't do it justice.

here's a couple pics I took when I rode my bike around the rim. 32 miles of high altitude pain.

    Thanks Jason !

I'm still working towards making actual-size prototypes. At this point, I'm still waiting for my CNC machine to be built and delivered.

I was hired to design a Washington DC "state" quarter by a private mint. They currently have that one available for sale. While I didn't make the 3D model or dies myself, they did a good job in replicating my artwork. In the future, I will be making the 3D models (galvanos) and/or dies myself.

PS: The Oregon committee picked the Crater Lake design. I like that one, I think it is good - even though it is difficult to show that subject well on a small coin. However, I've heard that the Governor has a liking for Salmon - we shall see.

I will definitely be making struck prototypes of that one. I've been wanting to do so for quite a while now. I'm just waiting for my CNC machine to be built and delivered (it is way behind schedule).

Daniel---this is simply a georgeous coin! Did the astro-spin of it. Too short---only lasted 2 sec. Hardly enough time to really appreciate the effect! I think it should go to 5 sec!

I hereby place my order for 5, if they aren't going to be too expensive!

Resized I have to say the Crater Lake Design is much improved. At least it is unique to Oregon. Lots of other Pacific Northwest states have salmon, big mountains, wagon train heritage. Only Oregon has Crater Lake. Now lets not let happen what happened to New Hampshire when they designated their unique stoneface on the coin only to have the formation crumble off. (That isn't a big sucking sound I hear, is it?)

  • Hey I just saw a commercial for your washington dc design quarter, being sold by the national collectors mint. Commercial was on Fox news and they give you much deserved credit. Pretty cool.
