Grading/Updating 66 FB & Mojo's submission

Skinsfan,
I thought I would start a new thread and not get the other one too far off track.
I thought that you won "the MojoRob" set. Hey, an education doesn't come cheap.
But in this case, I actually feel for the guy. I have been there before on that set. More than once I am afraid. And I suspect that I will be there again before it's all said and done. And it does torque you off for a while and it can change your submission habits. It did mine.
I haven't found your two dealers but it didn't take long before I switched the focus of my strategy to buy instead of submit. The colored borders show everything under magnification. I believe that the cards grade about one to two grades lower than a white bordered card with the exact same wear.
Saw the update and I finsihed mine today. I had found an unopened package with a "9" in it last week. You are now back to .10, or at least for the moment. I also updated Fuzz 2 and have taken over third all time and am now at 100%. Keeping a moving target for Shouldabeena.
MojoRob,
I feel for you man. Been there and been done by that as well. Those 7's still have some value and so do those 6's. If you look through the sets that you are hoping to catch, you will see scattered o/c's, 6's and a whole bunch of 7's. Even in the better sets. It isn't because these guys aren't putting out the effort. These cards are that tough and making them yourself is a killer. Remember the comment about three cello boxes yielding only four 9's total (I believe the cello box count is right on that one and I am pretty sure on the four nine's to date --- but there are a few cards that could still be submitted so I understand). Point being, they are really tough on this issue. Buy a nine and get a good look at one up close under 10X power. It will help put things in perspective. There are a lot of very very low pop cards in this set for a good reason. Chin up. You'll get 'em, And Lord knows, you don't want to take grief from Shouldbeena.

Fuzz
Wanted: Bell Brands FB and BB, Chiefs regionals especially those ugly milk cards, Coke caps, Topps and Fleer inserts and test issues from the 60's. 1981 FB Rack pack w/ Jan Stenerud on top.

maybe i can start giving you my eights when i upgrade.couldabeen has been getting them but i think ill just sell him some 88,s HE LOVES BO and VINNY image sorry mike just cant forget that speedo remark

Fuzz 1 of those dealers we have both bought from many times. pete at (champsandbums) told me at the fort show he has had it with the 66,s gets hammerd every time says it is the only year it happens on.The other is well known himself but i refrain on tossing his name out with out speaking to him first.

FUZZ not sure if you saw my last post on the old thread but i have givin up the 66,s this year unless i find 1 of those broadway joes. Now that could make things interesting. But in the mean time i think i will join you on another one of your sets you need someone to keep you company up at the top maybe it will distract you for next year

Hey Mojo, I mailed you out the rest of that box of tissue's last night, so when you get done scrubbing that brown spot off your nose ... you can dry away those submission tears too.

OK, that's my only smack line for this thread... I promise! And it was done purely out of spite for mojo bumping a few of my bids last night on DSL's auctions. image

Actually, I feel for you Mojo. As Art and Fuzz mentioned the graders are tuff, tuff, tuff, on the 66's. I also tend to agree with the masses .... that PSA has been leaning towards the lower grade on MANY vintage submissions lately. I just got my grades back yesterday on a couple of 48 Leafs I had cracked out to try and bump up a grade..... they all went down a grade instead.image

The other thing I'm worried about is I just sent off a 50+ card submission of assorted high grade (fingers crossed) 60's cards a few days ago, and I now wish I would have waited. I might be needing that box of tissues back soon Mojo.

So I guess the new benchmark was set last night for the low pop nines.... 3 bills or more... ouch!

Me thinks I'll be backing off that statement to Fuzz about "picking up a few nines in auctions between now and October" Way too rich for my blood. I guess I'll just have to settle for beating out Fuzz 2 this year, and try to stay as close to the pack as I can.

and of course... keep reminding Art about his speedo's image

    Mike

    Howdy Gang,
I didn't want to post earlier because I was pretty upset.
The 1966 Topps Football disaster submission showed up today and I looked it over carefully.
I tried to have an open mind while going through the stacks.
There are easily a dozen or so cards that were graded PSA 7 that could have pulled 8's.
To add insult to injury......as if the submission wasn't bad enough, I counted 28 slabs out of the 65 that had scuffs on the fronts of them.
Wow, when it rains it pours, sometimes.
Since I received so few PSA 8's anyway, it is less of a big deal.
Certainly not going to get all worked up over a scuffed PSA 6 or 7.
I guess, I will just take my butt whippin on this one and chalk it up to experience.
You know though it is funny, it is almost like two different people graded this submission.
The first 25 cards were my old usual approx.70% PSA 8 clip, as I recieved 15 PSA 8's out of the first 25 cards.
THEN ALL HECK BROKE LOOSE on the remainder of the submission as I only received 4 PSA 8's in my last 40 cards!!
    A 10% clip. VERY STRANGE.......VERY STRANGE INDEED!!
I wonder if I called up customer service, if they would tell me if the same grader did the complete 65 card lot, or if it was in fact split up??
Anyway, I guess it is, what it is.
    AND IT AIN'T GOOD!!
Well I won't be submitting for a while, that's for sure.
So for FUZZ, ART, & MIKE my fellow 66 Topps Football Compadres ........ have a chuckle on me. image

PS. Art, you were the GRAND PRIZE WINNER as you guessed 40% PSA 8's.
Your prize will be my PSA 5 KEN GRAHAM card with a sratched up front slab........that I thought was a strong 8. image
    Cheers Guy's.
