GENERAL QUESTION ABOUT CROSSING OVER NGC TO PCGS

Just wondering how close they are in general to each other. I submitted four ngc dimes to PCGS to crossover.
1953 PR68cam
1954 PR68cam
1956 PR66UCAM
1959 PR66ucam
The ucams definately look it to me, but I will be honest I cannot tell a 66 from a 67 or a 67 from a 68 so do I have a snowballs chance? These four dimes would radically upgrade my 1950-64 registry set.

I have attempted a few (less than ten) proof crossovers from NGC to PCGS and have noticed the designation remains the same (CAM to CAM and UCAM to DCAM). However, PCGS typically dropped the grade 1 point.

I have had some luck recently with ANACS and NGC coins in business strike. For example I recently got back a PCGS graded 1972 type 2 Ike graded in MS64 which started out as a ANACS BREEN 5749 1972 Ike in MS64.

I would say it really depends on the mood of the grader.

    Good luck with your submissions.
  • I have only done one crossover and it came back the same as NGC graded it. The coin was a 1999 Proof Kennedy.

I have tried to cross a number of proof pieces and in my experience, they more often cross one grade lower. In addition, I firmly believe that PCGS's cam designation is more stringent than NGC as is the dcam designation. I have several NGC cams that would not cross to PCGS cam - same thing from ultra to dcam.

In short, NGC will give a cameo before PCGS will and they will also give an ultra before PCGS gives a dcam - all at an average of about one point lower.

I will bet that you will go 0/4.
  • oh well, I used my free submissions to do it so it does not hurt me, but geeze.

I had a 1950 Pr67 Cam NGC go to Pr64 Cam PCGS. I find that crossing the Roosies seems extra difficult.

Strange, but I crossed my rainbow proof roosies from NGC to PCGS and got generally higher grades....that said, only 2 or 3 were Cam??image
