Are PSA 6 (OC) common?

I have an 1974 OPC graded as such, but have not seen too many 6s with a qualifier.

I've got a '69 Ryan graded 6 OC. It will be on eBay sometime fairly soon but I don't expect much for it.

Yeah, centering problems seem to be one thing that knocks card prices way down. Even if you were to have a PSA 4 or 5 that was way off center, it still wouldn't go for much on Ebay. However, I think the OC qualifier is bad for any card, because it shines a glaring light on the fact that it is off center.

  • I sold a 53 Bowman Colour Whitey Ford PSA 8 OC recently. SMR on a PSA 8 without the qualifier is $4600. I listed it once for $460 (10% of worth) and it didn't sell. Listed it again and it sold for $635. That's what effect the OC has..

I am the proud owner of what may be the lowest rated 1969 Nolan Ryan card, a PSA 4 MC.

I did see a '52 Mantle PSA 1 MK for sale on eBay one time. I didn't think that was possible.

  • I got a question about the OC designation. How come I see it on some cards that are not obviously off center at all or not badly at the least. Yet I see cards graded often with no OC designation that are obviously off centered.

Whats the guide lines as to getting an OC mark. Is any card that is not perfectly centered suppose to be tagged OC? Or only cards that are off centered to a certain margin?

Adam if you look at PSA's grading guidelines(on the main page) you'll see that centering standards are tougher as the grade goes higher so while a 65-35 centering may be acceptable in an 8 for example, you may need 60-40 or better for a 9. Also you can request no qualifiers which will basically knock a card down 2 grades, so if you have a card which would receive an 8 OC grade but have requested no qualifiers , it would receive just a straight 6. That's maybe the reason for some of the discrepancies you've noted in centering.

  • Dave thanks for that reply. I just got my grades posted to me for my first submissions. Was more or less the grades I expected to get, nothing special, 8's and 9's how ever I was alittle shocked to see 2 of the cards got OC designations on them. Neither card did I think was badly OC by any stretch of the imagination, especially one of them in particular. Once I get them back I will post them and see what you all think.
