Wow

I watched some auctions for high grade (including UNC) shillings today. Some prices realized (grades by the seller) compared to Spink 2004 prices:

1840 AU $203.59 £150
1843 AU $541.00 £125-£200
1849 AU $207.50 £95
1850 AF/VF? $1,225.00 £120
1851 EF $396.09 £300
1854 EF $1,160.00 £500
1869 BU $293.50 £200
1870 Choice BU $379.50 £200
1905 EF $1,375.00 £500
1909 EF $147.50 £85

Granted, several not mentioned were sold well below Spink catalogue. I am quite surprised how many of these met or exceeded the Spink valuations given that the seller is US-based.

Former owner, Cambridge Gate collection.

Very informative thread WYbrit... I am surprised that an 1849 shilling went for over $200. I recall posting a thread about that date within the last 6-8 months and I was alittle concerned that I paid either full freight or too much... well... I'm wrong again...image
