Cross overs to ponder

I sent in 4 cards to be crossed and have some interesting results to share:

1) 1989 Score Tony Dorsett BGS 9.5- PSA 9(I know but I needed it for the registry)
2) 1977 Steve Largent Rookie SGC 88- PSA 8
3) 1990 Score 101T Emmit Smith Rookie SGC 96- PSA 9
4) 1984 Topps Marino Rookie BGS 8.5- M/G(I had the M/G as a 9)

Looks as if SGC was on the money, and BGS may have been over graded.. Just something to ponder..

Did the Dorsett have a 9 grade for corners? I think PSA is tougher on those than anyone.

Isn't it possible that BGS had it "right" and PSA undergraded?
  • The sub for the corners was a 9... I thought about undergraded, then I forgot it.. I didn't want to think about that...

Wouldn't it have been a lot cheaper, easier or and made a lot more sense to just buy a PSA 9 89 Score dorsett? You probably could have bought 2 or 3 of them for the price of a BGS 9.5...

The other ones seemed to cross over well. I am going to have BGS look at 2 gai cards I have this weekend and pay the $7 to have them give me a "cross over" grade. One is an 86 Donruss The Rookies Bonds GAI 9.5 the other is a GAI 9 SP GU Carmelo Anthony Gold #/50. I am curious what BGS will say when they see them in the holders. I am going to crack the Melo for sure and send it to PSA, unless BGS calls either of them 9.5's, in which case they can crack and slab them for me.
image I know, I know. Let the flaming begin.
  • Yes it would've. I had a PSA 9 purchased for $15.00, put got sniped.. I paid $9.95 shipped for the BGS 9.5.. I felt it was a good gamble for $10.00 and a shot at a PSA 10.. But, it didn't pan out that way.. Regardless I'd do it again in hopes of a equal cross.. Guess it's just my dumb luck..
