Mile High 1975 Schmidt Mini

I'm somewhat interested in this card, but noticed that it has the different color line on the top border of the card (presumably from the card above on the sheet). Question for 75 experts - does this ever affect the card's grade? I've seen it on a lot of 75s. a little blue

I've seen it before (actually have a 1975 Schmidt regular Topps that has a yellow line at top). But I've seen the blue line on the mini before.

For what it is worth - I personally believe that that should make the card MC (miscut). The Topps card I have does have the MC designation. In my mind - this card should not have this grade.

All that being said - of the regular issue, Schmidt only cards (e.g. not leader cards, etc.) - this is currently the toughest one to obtain in PSA 9 grade.

  • PSA says it's a 9, buy the holder, not the card.

that card should either be OC or MC in my opinion
  • Very nice card, but I'm probably going to pass.

Good question, as I have seen this a lot on 1975's. I have seen many pass through without an MC, but in my opinion, that is just what a MC card is. I don't recall seeing many mini 9's however.

Weren't the blue and yellow done in two separate color runs on the four color process? Essentially, the four colors used in the printing were shades of blue, yellow, red and black. That would make the card slight off register rather than being miscut. Since it is not out of focus though, no qualifier was attached.

This is common on 75s, since off-center cutting isn't disguised by uniform borders on each card. It's not too common on the Schmidt, so if you're in the market I'd suggest holding off till another comes around. The most common ones with such a problem I see are the Sparky Lyle and the Stolen Base Leaders which usually have white along the bottom, so I guess they are on a sheet edge. What I think is odd is that it is almost always top-bottom, not on the sides.

Okay, Bernie, the jury is still out. One argument is whether or not you consider 1975 Mini a regular issue series or not (it was issued regularly - but it was nonetheless a one-off experiment by Topps that was abandoned fairly quickly....). Also - time will tell. There is significant unopened of both of these issues out there - The Topps Mini, despite being much rarer than the regular Topps, nonetheless do not command price premiums. But unopened 1981 Donruss is much easier to find - so I guess I would have to give the nod to 1975 Mini as being the toughest

There is probably also a segregation to be made between toughest in PSA 9 and toughest in PSA 10. There are numerous Schmidt cards that have relatively large populations with only zero or one PSA 10 - but not necessarily hard to find in PSA 9.

I don't know whether the mini sheets were the same layout as the regular sheets, but Scmidt was at the TOP of the sheet.

The color you see is not the color of the card above, but rather the top of the sheet.

If he was in the middle of a sheet, the bottom of the card above would have been green, so there would be no potential for a color line at the top of the card:
