GOETZ: K-544 Foundry Trial cast

Opus 544 Erich Ludendorff Death Medal, Foundry Trial Cast, Obverse, 1938, Cast FE, 109mm, Rare variety without the General's insignia on the collar.

Bust left of WWI commander, 1923 Hitler Beer Hall Putsch participant and later propounder of Nordic religious cult.

This just came in today and I wanted to show it to you asap as it is the only one of its kind. I have yet to acquire an actual finished medal in order for me to show you a comparison. I will try to do so as soon as possible. Some of you may wonder why in the world I would want something like this, right? Well, it is a piece of history...it is the creative process frozen in time, it is art, and it is a piece of the puzzle towards finding out more about Karl Goetz and his art.

Very cool. As you said a piece of history. You are going to have to open a museum.

Scott - Thanks for showing the "art in process " pieces, it shows the creative process in the objective phase rather than the abstract of imagination or the satisfaction of completion and adds to the overall experience.

Wrong! I love it and can understand your wanting it 100%. It would be like me, as a George III collector running into a die test strike of that era, I'd be all over it! Great find!image

I, of course, am not surprised!! image I have several trial casts myself. They become very enticing when you realize that the artist has to work his way to his final product. One of the YN's in JohnZ's recent contest captured it pretty well in his story on St. Gaudens and his assistant's efforts to produce a realizable, functional and attractive design.
