Royal swap

Everything is upside-down in Denmark right now. Our crown prince is getting married to a nice girl from Tasmania, Mary, and you can’t turn on your radio or tv these days without hearing or seing something about the royal couple. Today, Monday the 10th, two commemorative coins were issued. For some reason they chose to release them now instead of on the wedding day which is Friday 14th.

The coins are an aluminum-bronze 20 kroner and a silver 200 kroner. The silver coin is already impossible to get - the demand for this coin is almost hysterical and that is quite unusual in Denmark. The 20 kroner coin is quite available, though, and I have laid my hands on a few of them. Both coins have the same design - see them here

I wonder if there are any Australians on this board? I would be more than happy to swap these 20 kroner commems for some of the Australian coins that are missing in my collection - one Danish coin for one Australian. Only thing is that the Australian coins must be uncirculated with original lustre because so are the coins that I am offering.

This is my want list of Australian coins:

50 cents 2000 (centenary of federation)
50 cents 2002 (year of the outback)
1 dollar 1994 (dollar decade)
1 dollar 1996 (Henry Parkes)
1 dollar 1997 (Kingsford Smith - map background)
1 dollar 1997 (Kingsford Smith - portrait only)
1 dollar 1998 (Howard Florey)
1 dollar 2000 (HMAS Sydney II)
1 dollar 2000 (Victoria cross)
1 dollar 2000 (Olymphilex)
1 dollar 2001 (centenary of federation)
1 dollar 2001 (army)
1 dollar 2001 (RAAF)
1 dollar 2001 (navy)
1 dollar 2001 (volunteers)

To give other than just Australians a chance to be a part of this here are a few other coins from around the world that could be swapped for a Danish wedding commemorative (they would still have to be uncirculated):

Gibraltar 1 pound any date KM18 (1988-96)
Gibraltar 1 pound 1989 (150th anniversary)
Gibraltar 1 pound 1993 (1967 referendum)
Gibraltar 1 pound 1994 (Royal yacht)
Gibraltar 1 pound 1995 (Rock of Gibraltar)

Isle of Man 1 pound 1983 (Peel)
Isle of Man 1 pound 1984 (Castletown)
Isle of Man 1 pound 1985 (Ramsey)
Isle of Man 1 pound 1986 (Douglas)
Isle of Man 1 pound 1996 (cricket)
Isle of Man 1 pound 1996 (Douglas)
Isle of Man 1 pound 1998 (Cricket - new portrait)

Nepal 1 rupee any date VS2011-26 (KM784, 785, 787 or 788)
Nepal many different 5 rupee-commems - ask me!

The coins listed above are all very difficult to find in Denmark but you may have better luck in your part of the world. If you are interested in swapping with some of the other 20 kroner commems issued since 1990 let me know - I’ll see what I can find image

Has she already learned Danish? I wonder what Danish sounds like with a Tasmanian accent! image

  • Yep, she already speaks Danish - still with a lot of accent, though. She has some problems with the pronounciation of some of the Danish wowels - they always cause trouble for English-speaking people - but she is getting better all the time.

Tasmanian sounds pretty much like normal Aussie but their A's are not as flat as those of the mainland Australians image - so it's more or less Danish with an Aussie accent.
