Dick...you gotta figure that out yourself -- now go to bed, it's late back there. Oh, I heard you on the recorder while I was entering this reply but I'm to pooped to talk now so I'm gonna hit the sack.
Unfortunately I've gotten myself in trouble for mentioning names in the past so if you don't mind I'll take a pass. These are the type of coins I like to handle although I can't always get as many as I would like

Don't these 1952-S's usually come washed out gray with a lack of appeal? I'd trade the "FBL" on the insert for color and lack of marks anyday! Nice score Richard. I've got to imagine the Seller is waking up this morning having seconds thoughts on selling that one. . .
If that's not your best toned Franklin Half, I'd kill to see which one is !!!
Great coin, unbelievable color.
As a novice to Franklins, what caused this color ? Bank wrapper or cloth bag or album toning ? I have seen Morgan Dollars with great toning but this coin is surreal.
Nice find !

I only have a few multi hue rainbow toned coins, and they are mostlyl Morgans so I know little about toned Franklins, but if that were a Morgan it would be difficult for me to determine if it was AT or not. What gives those of you more experienced with toned coins the confidence to throw dollars after a coin that might be AT? I bought a "Monster" rainbow colored Morgan in a PCGS holder for a hefty premium before I knew anything about AT. I sure hope it is not AT, but I wonder if I am just kidding myself since the seller seems to have dozens of toned "monster" coins for sale on a repeated basis.
Since learning how pervasive artificial toning has become, now when I read about someone paying multiples of a coin's value based upon rainbow toning alone I can't help but recall the story of the Emperor's New Clothing. I have to ask myself, if it looks too good to be true, maybe it is.
I think what our hobby needs is a definitive book on the art of artificial toning with multiple examples along the lines of the grading books (Photograde comes to mind) and counterfit detection books that were available in the past.
My comments above were not intended to rain on your parade. I like the coin and if it is not AT you have a coin to prize. Unfortunately there is no litmus test that I know of to tell for sure - but if there is I'd sure like to learn about it. If I understand correctly, the major grading services won't even guarantee a coin is not AT when they do holder them.
It would be a major contribution to the hobby if a definitive book with multiple examples could be made available to educate the average collector on the subject of natural vs. artificial toning. I wonder if this is a project that Q. David Bowers or someone of his stature would be willing to tackle?

<< <i>I paid plenty but lucky for me it didn't have FBL although they are fairly strong >>
I'll tell you, I love the look of a toner in the white NGC holder......
But if that one crossed as a FBL to PCGs, you have a very major major score........ did I say major?
