Little known trivia about baseball cards...

Betcha didn't know...

...that on Billy Ripken's 1989 Fleer he was actually saying "F**k Face" while the picture was being taken.

...the original shot for Wes Parker's 1973 Topps card was a reverse angle of the picture used on Steve Garvey's card. Parker's card was to have prominently featured Garvey's backside until Art Shorin came in and ended the little inside joke.

...Ted Williams was supposed to be featured in the 1952 Topps set but he objected to bubblegum that year and refused to allow his likeness on a bubblegum card. Smoking, however, was perfectly acceptable, and thus, his inclusion in the Red Man series. By 1954, however, he apparently changed his mind about bubblegum.

...Reggie Jackson's 1973 Topps card is really a photo of Redd Foxx.

...The plaque Mike Schmidt is holding in one of his 1982 Fleer cards is an award for "Best Beard in Baseball, 1981".

...Billy Martin wasn't arguing about a bad call in his 1972 Topps In-Action card. He was really playing "Give me five...on the side...up high" with one of the umpires.

Does that mean that Reggie went incognito and played Fred in a 1973 episode of Sanford and Son?....

and that Billy Ripken is a ventriloquist, because he is just half smiling on his card.

Look closer at the Ripken, he is just beginning to say the "F" in "Face".

Just noticed this on the 1973 Parker card - it doesn't look like the guy in the background walking up the stairs is wearing a whole lot of clothes....

    Anybody else notice this???

That's California in the early 70's. They used some innovative marketing strategies to sell beer in the stands!

Who is the Phillie on first base with Parker?

Luzinski? Not many '72 Phillies had forearms like hams. However I've heard many of them had livers enlarged to the size of hams.

Looks like it could be The Bull.

As long as the thread is giving obscure trivia, here is a factoid.

During much of his time with the Phillies Greg Luzinski lived only a few doors away from Gorilla Monsoon of WWF fame, or whatever they called "pro" wrestling in the 70's. Went to school with their kids.
