Bobby Jones - A Stroke of Genius
Has anyone seen this movie yet? What did you think. Historically it was fairly accurate, although they did embellish a few facts to make for a better storyline.(many small details were VERY accurate)
I have noticed that Jones and Hagen items on ebay sales seem to be a tad stronger since the movie release last week. Although I wish one of these days I could find a nice Sport Kings Jones or Hagen without selling a kidney........

Didn't anyone learn a lesson from Bagger Vance? Golf movies just suck. Except, of course, for Caddyshack. I'm a two handicap and I almost hung cut my wrists with a hard nacho during Tin Cup. I can't imagine someone not completely interested in golf going to one of these movies.
Instead of going to see this dumb movie, read the first 80 pages of Golf in the Kingdom. You'll learn more about golf, save yourself a ton on movie tickets and actually use your brain for once.
Poor Skumby ... offended again.
Sounds like 'the pretentious one' needs yet another big hug from everyone.
Just knowing that we all live and die,
for your every horsesh*t observation, should be more than enough motivation for you to keep on posting ...
"How about a little fire Scarecrow ?"
What's next, you'll rip Mickey Mantle for portraying the Punisher poorly? Sheesh...
Our current ebay auctions, and of course BaseBallCardHeaven.com
Futureman, I live in Nebraska, don't collect much husker memorabilia, but I am a season ticket holder.....

I have a problem when they make movies portraying people as angels when, in fact, they weren't. Bobby Jones kept his amateur status for a number of reasons. First, it was nearly impossible to make a living at golf during his time. Hagen was an anomaly. Jones didn't give up a life of million dollar purses to stay true to amateurism. He made the now famous swing lesson movies because he needed the dough. He was never a wealthy man, but it wasn't because he was above commercialism.
Also, Jones shares in the responsibility for Augusta's non-tolerance aimed at minorities. He is founder of one of the last bastions of racial and gender elitism in the US.
While his illness was a tragedy, putting him on a pedestal is a little hard to swallow. Lou Gehrig was a hero. Bobby Jones had one of the three greatest years in golf along with Hogan in 1953 and Tiger's Tiger Slam.
And, Wolfbear, I'm looking forward to the movie about your life coming to home vidoethis summer--A Bloke on a Penis. I know climax will be talked about by florists for years to come.
I am not sticking up for Jones personal behaivors, In my opinion he was a southern gentleman in every sense of the word. He also had a large investment in Coca cola, and a decent law practice. Fact is professional golfers of that time did not make any money to speak of, but Jones had the means and the desire to stay an amateur.
I would argue he had the best 8 years a golfer has ever had starting in 1923. He won 13 of the 25 major tournaments he entered in those years and finished 2nd another 5-6 times. That is top 2 in over 70% of the majors entered in a 8 years span
Not too bad.....

<< <i>Happy 110th birthday Bobby! >>
Dead people don't have birthdays'. You see, once you die, you're disqualified from having a birthday. Kind of like once you foul out of a basketball game, you're not scoring any more points.
(but I'm not volunteering)
