Starting a Basic and Master Player Set

I am contemplating starting either a Basic or Master set for
one of my favorite players, Will Clark. Who determines what
cards are to be included in the set? Or rather, how do I determine
what cards are to be included in the set? What is the difference
between a Basic and Master set. Thanks.

  • You can either do the legwork yourself or let them do it. If you let PSA do the homework, then it will take weeks/months for them to get around to it as there is a waiting list. If you want to do the homework yourself, you would look up all of Will Clarks cards (I believe you can only use cards that came out while he was an active player) and assign a rarity value to them. For example, his 1988 topps card isn't rare at all, but his 1988 topps mini might be hard to find. Maybe someone else can help you with the specifics, or you can email the Set Registry people from the Set Registry page and they can fill you in.
  • The Will Clark sets are already on the registry.
Basic set cards should be regular base cards from Topps, Score, Fleer, Upper Deck, etc. This should exclude cards like Fleer Glossy, Topps Tiffany, Topps Mini, League Leaders, All-Star, etc. which should be put in the Master set.
For a better idea i'd look at other Player sets that played during his era. Should give you a better understanding.

  • Hi JackWESQ,

Welcome aboard and hope you enjoy the PSA Set Registry as much as I and a lot of other collectors have.

There are Will Clark players sets already listed on the registry, and if you have cards that are graded and are not part of the Master set, just email at Set Registry and they will add the cards to the checklist for you. They are a little backed up right now so it takes a few weeks.

    Happy collecting,
