Anyone in on the MGA auctions tonight?

How long do these things usually take to end?

  • Sean,

How did you clean up share the goods.......

It was nerve-wracking, mostly because I forgot about the 15% buyers premium when I was bidding. D'oh! I went a little overboard, but here are the goods:

Autographed '41 Play Ball Group - It probably wasn't worth the $1100, even with the Williams, but I just had to have that card. When it arrives, it'll go to PSA/DNA for slabbing. Not sure what I'll do with the Reese, but the rest will end up on eBay.

Autographed 1957 Topps Collection - This one is going to be interesting, since I'm working on the 57 Topps autograph set. I'll need to move a few of the cards that I already have (Mathews, possibly the Bunning, Colavito), but at about $7 a card, I think I can make some $ should I decide to sell them all.

Autographed 1963 Topps Bombers’ Best - Another one that I'm torn about. At that price, I'm sure I could slab it and sell it for a profit, but that is one sweet card that would be great in my collection.

Autographed 1969 Topps Baseball Card Collection - This one will be a much easier lot to break up and resell. I was in the bidding on the 65 Topps lot they had up as well, but ended up not being able to stay in due to $. I'll keep the Jackson (that is the strangest signature of his I've ever seen), but sell the rest.

Lot of 237 Signed Cards - This is where I'll either make or lose on this whole proposition. At about $4 a card, I should be able to make my money back and then some on the lot (Howard, Martin, Kluz, etc), but the lesser cards in the lot (Fred Lynn, Joe Niekro, etc) could be tough.

Signed TCMA Postcard Collection - I don't think that people realized that there were 2 Greenberg autographs in the lot. I'll keep one, then sell all of the rest. I think PSA allows these cards into the set registry, but I'll check. This could be a great lot for me.

Roger Maris Signed 1967 Topps Card - I didn't really want to win this one, but I don't have a Maris autograph. There are a lot floating around on eBay at the moment, so I'll probably hold onto it, get it slabbed, then resell it.

I was outbid on the Jackie Robinson autographed Leaf rookie (mine was the second to highest), and couldn't justify bidding again with the back damage the card has. That would have been a $600 + anchor for me, even if it was a nice card. I was also in on the bidding for this lot of 89 Signed HOF Cards , but was outbid (and thankfully so, as I was going to be tapped out had I won). My high bid was $887 ($1020.05 with the juice), and even then I was over $10 a card. Sure they are nice cards, and I'm sure we'll see them on eBay soon, but it would have been tough for me to resell the lot.

It was a nerve wracking night, and I don't know if I'd do it over again. If I do, I'll have to have more $ available to me and set stronger limits for my bids.

    Sean:
    What a night!

PSA wouldn't slab my TCMA Ted Lyons card. Maybe you will have better luck.

I might ask how much it would cost to have some of the cards slabbed by GAI as Authentic or Graded before they are sent to me. Figure it might help with resale. Thoughts?

    NO WAY!

Remember how cheaply you won that Spahn Red Heart!

I am sure it would have gone for more if it were in a PSA slab. Many more Ebayers search for PSA/DNA than GAI etc.
