Pop reports have doubled

Did anyone notice that the pop reports have doubled in quantity.
I was reviewing my 1975 Topps set and noticed all the pops have doubled.
Also in the 2002 Bowman chrome--most likely a glitch of some sort.
Anyone notice the same?

I thought my pop 1's were no longer 1/1 but now 1/2image

  • I was gonna start the same post....I was looking at the 71 set and Lonborg went from pop 5 to 12 overnite and almost every common has double or tripled in psa 8s. Anyone have any info. I know there must be a ton of material out there but it would seem foolish as a submitter to send in 25+ commons of the same player from the whole set even if they were all very hi grade.Talk about flooding the market. Maybe a glitch or...not?????

It's all that high grade raw stuff that was rumored to be out there. That's why the turnaround times have stunk. Quick . . . sell me your cards at 20% of SMR while there's still time.

I noticed the exact same thing with the 72 set.
Schaal IA pop went to 20. . .Barton IA pop went to 18. . .

It almost has to be a database quirk - because ALL (YES, ALL!!!!) the low-pop 72s had equal gains seemingly overnight. I know PSA took in a lot of cards on the 72-and-later special, but for ALL the low-pop cards of a set to double (or more) at one time - HIGHLY unlikely.

This is the fastest way I know to get from 7,000,000 PSA graded cards the 'new' total of 14,000,000. Big bonus time for those at the top........

This has to be an error.
Every cards pop report across the board has doubled that I eyeball.

Every 80 PSA 10 couldn't have doubled practically over night. If they have I hope they make it to the auction block.

I noticed that a couple of the 1/1 I had in the 80's football aren't 1/1 anymore either. And I was all excited about having a psa 10 in the 1986 topps that no one else had. That ship sailed I guess, lol.

Please say it is true that this is an error. My 1971 Topps Greatest Moments set just dropped $10000 if it is true.

  • It has to be a computer glitch with the doubling of populations.

The 1971 Lonborg did move up, but only from a pop 5 (in PSA 8) to a pop 6. This happened about a week, maybe 10 days ago. I wonder who has this new one?image

Anyway, if the pop on the Lonborg is now a 12, the likely event of a computer glitch is a very real posssiblity.

Some dealers do send in massive amounts of the same card, the reasoning that they are more likely to get higher grades if all the cards are very high grade and look the same, such as vintage cards from vending runs. This lends to the perception issue on the graders' minds. Perception is always greater and more important than reality. Just ask the people who play the stock market.

  • I just talked to customer service, they were not aware of the problem, but are now. They said they would have the IT people look into it.
It has to be a glitch as everything seems to have exactly doubled.

It most certainly is a mistake--there is no way all cards in many issues almost exactly doubled in a couple of days.
I did send an email about it.

    This has now been corrected!

  • As a former computer programmer/analyst, I can make a pretty good assessment of what happened -- in case anybody who's not a computer type wants to know. I've actually done it myself a few times. Somebody probably wrote an update query that was intended to update one or a few records. They made a small error in writing it and when they executed it, it updated ALL records. If this person was good, he/she would have taken a database backup before running the update query. Then its only a matter of restoring the database to pre-update content. So rest easy gang -- it looks like PSA's computer person is on the ball.

Over two hours after a PSA administrator acknowledges the problem has been corrected, we get confirming words from the board's resident guru.image

Hey, does this mean there are now TWO T206 Wagners graded PSA 8, and SIX 1952 Mantles graded PSA 10? No wait, the older material seems to be unaffected by the glitch. And it *is* just a glitch, as Scott said. Let's take a deep breath! image
