This is an older thread on the subject but some folks don't venture to that board.
So I ask the question here.
Everytime this happens to me it just makes collecting that much more fun.It even makes the card you wind up selling that much more special.
Just recently I sold a Dan Schatzeder card to none other than Dan Schatzeder.
Prior to selling the card above to him a school teacher bought the other for her daughter who Dan mentored her as a pitcher in High School and College.
There are only 3 examples of this in 9 and it's a 1/3 too.
Here is the other card sold to the pitcher's mom.
And the note she sent me.
Note: I taught school with Dan for the past several years in Aurora. He is
one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. My oldest daughter collects his
cards. He helped her out when she was pitching in high school and college.
He's a great man and teacher.

Jason Hirsch up and coming pitcher for the astros traded an auto card with me. Nice guy i hope he makes it big time. I have also sold many cards to jason kubel's mother and Mark Prior's cousin.
It amazed me through emails with the players or there families.that these guys have no connections of getting the cards they signed themselves. I guess that is a good thing for us collectors though bc if they did have the connections we wouldnt get any good cards.

Coming from you, it can be expected.
This is a real hobby post as opposed to investment talk.
What a nice reason to buy a card of a player: He was a mentor to the woman's daughter.
I like that reason a lot. Schatzeder is a real class guy for giving you the time to sign some cards for you.
I appreciate stories like that.
I would think that baseball players have better access to cards than we do, but I guess that myth has been dispelled and rightfully so.
Daryl Strawberry used to live in my city when he was with the Dodgers, but I never saw him.

<< <i>Not a card, but I traded Reggie Jackson a 16x20 photo of him that he had never seen before for his autograph on one (I had 2). This was at a show in NJ 5 or 6 years ago. >>
My one encounter with Mr.October was interesting. He was fine with me but people around us were busting his chops,so he was uncomfortable from the start.
Then...
I read Billy Martins # 1 book and Billy says He thinks there are Two Reggies.
I love hearing about Reggie Jackson encounters that are like his TV character.Glad to hear you had a good one with him.
Mine wasn't good or bad but memorable as a whole.
