Master Set question

In my process of slowing bulding a McGwire Master Set, I came across this card on Ebay. My question is that if I were to buy a card like this and have it graded, would it go into my Master Set? It's a 1 of 1 so that would seem to make it unfair to everyone else since they could never reach 100% with that card included. Is there a minimum limit for the number of cards produced for them to be included? If a card is serial numbered to say 10, and included in the Master Set, then technically you could never have 11 people who completed the set. How does that work?

you'll have to send it to PSA/DNA, because (Pinnacle President) Jerry Meyers signed the reverse.

Yeah, I've heard that before. I actually have no interest in buying that particular card. I could finish 35% of the set for the same money that that card would cost me. I was just wondering about limited produced cards in general.

The thing about those cards is that even though it is a 1/1, there is also a 1/1 for each of the other 3 colors from the plates (cyan, magenta, and black i think). It's kind of like using the logic that every card every produced is a 1/1, ie that individual card. Granted, these are nice cards though and it would be awesome to have all 4 from 1 player.

Great question. I wonder what PSA would say as I know there are similar Gwynn cards that would fit this criteria/category.

I guess you'd have to first find one that PSA would grade (or already has graded, possibly another similar 1/1 type card). Assuming PSA would grade it as a regular PSA card (non-DNA), I'd guess that PSA would probably go ahead and allow you to enter it into the master set.

I don't know if they have an official policy, but I can tell you what they did with the Marcus Allen set. They did not add my 1998 Score Showcase 1/1, but they did add my 1997 Playoff Zone Gold 1/5. They didn't give an explaination - I included both on the spreadsheet I sent, but only the Payoff was included when they uploaded the master set.

Carol, if your out there, please make an official policy to this because the registry is growing tremendously and with many "newer" players master sets being listed, this problem/question well arise in the future. My opinion is that a Master Set should only include cards that 100 or more have been produced. Cards rarer than that could have a little bonus section at the end of the persons set that would have no bearing on GPA or completion percentage but would be there so people can show them off.

I think that it is a good idea to not have 1/1 in the master set ratings but I do think people should be able to show off the card. I think that any card with 50 or more could be used. That gives enough people a chance. I have a card in my reggie white set that is #'d to 50.
