TWO RARE LINCOLN CENT PROOF COINS
The sale at the Heritage (CSNS) auction of the 1909VDB Matte Proof and the 1990 no S Lincoln cents confirmed to me the fact that these two coins are truly very rare. I believe that currently less than 200 pieces exist of each of them! The 1909VDB Matte Proof was lot # 5812 in the sale. It attracted 12 bidders and sold for $7,130. That is a VERY nice price for a PR64RB. The 1990 no S Proof was lot #5849 in the sale. It attracted 10 bidders and sold for $5,750. That is a VERY nice price for a PR66DCAM which represents one of the two LOWEST graded of 40 coins now slabbed! I am very lucky to own these two coins as they are the cornerstones of a complete Lincoln cent proof collection. Congratulations to the winners. I think you will find that the prices for these two coins IN THESE GRADES in the future will only go up, not down. To those of us who cannot spend moon money for "pop top" examples which risk the ups and downs of the market, being able to get coins of this rarity and popularity at these prices is an achievement. I agree those were stunning prices. Don I think you asked me about the vdb and I said it would take about $6k to buy it. I was surprisingly low.
