Does anyone have any Jefferson Nickel Price Data?

Does anyone have any price information on a 1940-S DDR-001 Jefferson Nickel in around MS63-MS64 and also a 1941-D DDR-001 in MS63-MS64? Any input would be helpful.

Thanks,

Robert

    You might check www.varietynickels.com.

Not sure if they have pricing for those issues, but it is a nice site!

I check Jason's site daily. Used to be Doubled Die Pictures on there ......AHEM Jason...........but don't know what happened to them. It would relaly be nice for us tightwads that are too cheap to buy the book.
No really Jason your site is awesome and I am very grateful for your website.
I have learned immensely on your site and here as well. I am really getting in to this Jefferson Variety collecting. So far I have found (1) 1939-D DDO-001 MS-66 in an NGC slab, (1) 1939-D DDO-001 raw that has a gorgeous rainbow reverse and pastel pink-blue obverse that should grade around MS65, (1) 1942-D MS65FS raw that looks like a D over a Horizontal D that I bought raw for $35 and a few other varities that I need to verify.
I am still learning about Jefferson varieties and I am finally starting to be able to determine strike or machine doubling from true Doubled Die.
I really enjoy collecting die varieties. There are a lot of dealers that just aren't into Die Varieties and when you find a good dealer you can find a lot of nice varieties. At first I used to feel kind of guilty but the way I see: That dealer that sold me the coin has already made his/her profit and once a coin is purchased it free pickins' (pun intended).
Anyway I think we need a seperate Forum for Die varieties don't you? Or how about putting a small forum on your website Jason? I know I would post daily man. I love this forum it is wonderful. I have learned here more in 3 years as a member than I ever have learned in collecting off and on for over 30 years. The only drawback is sometimes I (more like always) spend more time than I should.

Anyways sorry for being so windy but I hope someone can answer my question.

    Thanks,

    Robert

I forgot to mention that Jason has always helped me whenever I had a question about Jefferson varieties and he is a great guy. People like Jason and many other people on this forum is what makes this site majorly "ROCK ASS"

  • image Thanks for the kudos! I enjoy varieties alot too and thats why I made the site - but it turned into so much more than that and I can tell you I have learned alot about the series just from building the site. The Jefferson series is an excellent denomination to collect in varieties because you can pick up great coins in BU for little money.

As far as photos of the doubled dies there were never any there yet. It will take so much more work to do the doubled dies than the RPMs because I want to try to include markers and multiple photos of the doubling. I am trying to get the RPMs done first and unfortunately have hardly scratched the surface...

I used to have a message board on the site but it was unused and therefore deleted. I will see about trying to hook another one up...

And now to your question on the 1940-S DDR-001 and 1941-D DDR-001... I have a raw 40-S DDR1 and believe it retails for right around $15-$25 in BU. I also have a 41-D DDR1 in a SEGS cache with full steps at ms63 and believe I paid aorund $25 for that one also.... It's tough to put a value on these because they are such a specialty coin and only worth as much as a Jeff variety collector is willing to pay. Neither is particularly scarce but bith are certainly nice dies.

Thanks Jason. I need to break down and buy copies of all of the Jeff variety books out. I really appreciate all of the hard work on your website. It is one of the sites that I visit daily. I have always been interested in varieties but for the past few months I have been drawn to Jefferson varieties.

I'm sorry Jason I think that I was thinking of CONECA's site that lists descriptions. I think that it was one of the nights that I had trouble sleeping. I was just giving you crap anyways. One thing that I wish would happen is: More variety grading at NGC and PCGS. They need to add say the top 100 coins for each series. I really need to join CONECA.

  • I most certainly agree about PCGS and NGC. But, I stay with SEGS - superior variety attribution and step grading ta boot! And YES! JOIN CONECA! The magazine alone is worth it - invaluable information on error/variety coins!
