Franklin Half people...I'm freaking out right now..Pics up now

Ok now, here is what I got going on....

I have quite a few unopened 1961 and 1962 proof sets. It's been eating at me for a while, wanting to open them that is..

Well, I decided to do it... I noticed one of the 1962 envelopes had the date printed in a different area, so I decided to open it because it was different...

Wow!! The Franklin half is Deep Cameo w/ Double Die Obverse, even the nose , chin and neck show doubling.

I don't know alot about Franklin halves and can't find anything showing a 1962 DDO.... HELP!!

Tell me I found something good!!!

You may verywell have something very significant here. Tomaska's book sites a doubled die east most noticeable on the 2 of the date. If you have a high grade cameo those are worth a nice premium on their own right - a doubled die cameo sounds like a whopper! Get that thing graded!!! Congratulations!

1. Post pics here so we can all hate you.

2. Send it to PCGS and get it slabbed.

3. List it on eBay so we can bash each others brains in trying to own it!

Here is the coin... The pics stink, batteries died on my camera and I couldn't get any decent shots.

I posted this pic of the obverse because the angle shows the haze on the coin.

Does NCS conserve this kind of problem? What options should I consider?

I couldn't get any good closeups of the doubling, but its there. I only see a little bit on the 2 but all of the letters,especially the E's and the B seem the heaviest.

I am afraid Lucy is right on this one! Here is what will give it away: See if the bell says "PASS AND STOW, this is a warning from the fraud who made the coin. He is telling you to pass on it and stow it away with me.

I don't want to see Lucy out $25, after all she could buy a bee-bop CD with the money. I'll dig deep and give you $30 for that sorry fake DD CAM Franklin.

This needs more investigation, and I can't tell from the image... All I can tell, is Frankie needs a bath....

Maybe some of the others may have some pointers here, I think the NCS route is a good option...

Didn't you say there was doubling? That means it's defective. I'll be happy to take this problem coin off your hands for cheap.

Hard to tell the contrast on the obverse. Is it as pronounced as the reverse?
I would call it CAM thus far.

hughesm1: The contrast is the same on both sides.The pics are not a real good representation of the coin.The batteries died in my camera before I got to take any decent shots.The haze on the obverse is taking away from the cameo effect.I think thats why the reverse looks stronger.I am eager to get this coin cleaned up and graded.

I can't see the pics, but I'd send it to NCS to dip, and go right to NGC... if it's not a famous DD, PCGS won't note it, I don't believe.
