Does anybody have a Russian coin (it may have been a commerative)

with the likeness of a M.K. Ciurlionis on it. I saw one recently in a world coin collecting book at a bookstore. The person was a famous painter and composer and was my Grandfathers Uncle. I would love to find a few for my brother, my Uncle and myself.
Thanks,
Bob

  • I like his great pictures and visited the museum of your famous relative in Lithuenia--as far as I remember it is located in Kaunas, isn't it? I'm not sure that Russians minted such comm. coin--I'll check it in my Russian books, but may be the coin you saw was minted by contemporary Lithuenian Mint, as a commemorative coin. If I'm mistaken and it was minted by Russia (as 1 rouble comm. coin)it must be also in Krause book.
I'll back later with some info, I hope.

  • It is indeed a Lithuanian coin:
    1995
    50 litu
    KM99
    23.300g, .925 SILVER, .6929 oz ASW
    proof issue CV=$37.50

    I'm not afraid to die
I'm afraid to be alive without being aware of it

Thanks for the link, I will search it when I get home tonight.

Yes - the museum is located in Kaunas. You are lucky to have visited the museum, I wish I had the resources to go....actually more to send my mother than myself. Very glad you appreciate his work.

I have gotten some Lithuanian stamps (issued in 1996) of his artwork on ebay. I keep an eye out for items involving him but I have yet to see the coin listed.

Thanks everyone for all your help. It is much appreciated.
