Home Buy, Sell, & Trade - U.S. Coins

I'm NOT out of here.......

You know, every time I come here I get chastised for something. It’s either because of a failure to put eBay in the title or the fact that I used multiple messages to sell multiple items or who knows what else. If everyone is so picky on this forum then complain that there are no rules posted CLEARLY for everyone to see. It’s back to eBay for me, see ya later.

Instead of being offended and "out of here...." use it as a learning experience. Personally, I don't think it's too much to ask in placing Ebay in the title and combining coins you have for sale. If everybody placed one thread for each coin they wished to sell, there wouldn't be room for everybody. Some of these guys would have 300-500 threads and then everybody else's thread would be buried. The request to combine threads isn't directed at you personally, it's directed at all of us. Yes, us! I have been guilty of multiple threads also. But...I've found you can get at least 3 coins in the thread title description. Good luck on Ebay!

umm, you posted this on the wrong board, this is the BST board!image

Only kidding.....really, it's only common courtesy that is asked. These GUIDELINES (does this board actually have RULES pertaining to eBay on title & multiple threads?) are generally well know if you access this board with any frequency.

Some members don't want to read threads that are sell on eBay, they (me included) feel that they scoure eBay already (or don't like online auctions) & want to find members that sell here.

When you post multiple messages it drops others by that many. It's bad enough when members post ONCE for their wares, multiple posts drop others off page 1 that much faster, prompting them to TTT that much more often....then the board police gets on their case.

Sorry to see a member leave, but if you don't agree with the guidelines........

I agree that I just threw a childish temper tantrum and I will be back. Some days you just have to let er rip. What this forum needs is a 'sticky' message at the top that explains what is expected of members. That would be a good thing for the moderator (is there one?) to do. That is if the moderator CAN do that. If not then PCGS needs to do it. What I also find annoying (and I am guilty of this) is the constant TTT's that proliferate through this board. Ok forum police, carry on with your job...
  • Just FYI, along with the aforementioned rules, it is also requested that members limit there TTT's to once per 24 hours. This also seems like a fair and reasonable request.

Glad you're not leaving...and keep those seated dimes coming!
    Go well.

You're right, there are no official rules saying the following:

    1) Put e-bay in the title if you're items are on e-bay.
    2) Put all items that you have in one post.
    3) Only one ttt per day.
    4) Only post things for sell on the BST board... or registry board for top pop coins.

However, most board members follow these general rules as a curtisy to other members.

    1) Many members dont want to waist their time looking at your post if it's on e-bay. If it's on e-bay and it's on their want list, they're going to find it wheater they see your post or not.... so why waist time looking at it.

    2) Puting four or five posts up for different coins buries other posts. If everyone did this, it would be ttt war. It would be a total pain trying to find any post that you're following.

    3) This is the hardest one for me to personally "swallow" but I follow it. People dont want ttt, ttt, ttt, ttt just so you can stay at the top of the page. Doing so causes a ttt war. As a group, we're all better off just doing one ttt per day. I do deviate from this one a little, though. The last day before auctions in, I'll do one ttt in the morning, and another about two hours before the auctions end.

    4) The BST board is for buy/sell/trade. People looking for somehting to buy are looking here. Posting on the other pages too is almost like spaming. They shouldnt have to sift through all the sell offers on the other boards when that's not what those boards are set up for. Many members, however, do make exception for truely registry quality coins. They think that they should be allowed to post on the registry board. (Personally, I dont do this b/c I would rather avoid interpreting what "registry qualty" is.)

We all need to vent ever once in a while.... expecially when we get blasted when we didnt see it coming. I'm sure we would all be happy for you to stay. These boards are here for everyone.

Thanks for your post. I wish it could stay at the top of messages for others to read. I agree with everything you said except the part about eBay listings: "Many members dont want to waist their time looking at your post if it's on e-bay". I will look at message when members sell things on eBay. I would rather buy a coin off eBay from a member than a non-member. When you are on eBay looking, you can't tell if the item is from a member or not so the post here helps. Anyway, thanks again for your post.

rl 2 things...grow a think skin because all have opinions they think are more important than mine or yours, and keep sale thread multiples confine to one thread...easier to maintain and none can whine about it.

"Many members dont want to waste their time looking at your post if it's on e-bay". I will look at message when members sell things on eBay.

I hear you. I do too. That one never bothered me. Heck, it still doesnt. I do conform to it, though, because it does bother a lot of people. It's not something that's really hard for me to do. It just keeps some people from getting upset, and the others like you and I will look at it anyway.

Another thing that I usually try to do is offer coins here before I put them on e-bay. There are a lot of members that appriciate that, even if it isnt the best place to sell. I've even been blasted on prices before. It's a interesting thing, though. I cant tell you how many times I've tried to sell something here with no luck only to have it sell for 20-40% more off e-bay. Then there are times that I cant sell something for a 20% lose.

Also, the "thick skin" advice is good advice. There are a LOT of strong opinions on this board. I used to argue with people then I decided that kicking against a rock is pointless. I'm not going to convience anyone of anything if they've made there mind up... and they sure arnt going to change mine if I've decided my mind-set. Heck, I dont even care if I'm wrong. I'm just hard headed that way.

I would advise you reconsider, as this board is a GREAT place to sell stuff. Since there are no fees associated with it, it's a small price to pay to put up with a few etiquette guidelines. These are mostly unspoken and agreed on by the members, so it's it's easy to run afoul of them from time to time if you don't know better. If you've been chastised, no sweat- you ain't the first and you ain't the last. Once you know the unspoken rules of etiquette, you're free to post stuff here.

I do agree with you that these rules should be listed and kept at the top somehow- it would help others avoid the wrath of self-appointed forum cops.

I not long ago sold a couple of $1,200+ coins here. Sight-unseen, no pics. (Of course, I was banking on my reputation and the fact that they were in PCGS slabs, with a full return policy). The point is, I didn't have to scan any pictures (though that would have been nice if I had the time), and I didn't have to pay any fees to anyone. Ebay would have taken a big chunk.

When I do list things on eBay, and link to them here (putting "eBay" in the title, of course), then it's the best of both worlds. You get full eBay exposure plus a dedicated core of bidders from right here. It's a wonderful thing. I urge you to take advantage of it. You'll benefit greatly in the long run if you can get over a case of ruffled feathers.

And rest assured, there are many of us here like myself who have no problem with eBay links- like I said, it's the best of both worlds. Those who would like to see it banned have not been successful. I think folks should be allowed to put eBay links here, but I do agree that warning of it in the title line is a good idea, so if somebody doesn't wanna see eBay items, they can skip it.

Speaking of eBay, and chatboard etiquette- a few years back, when I joined their coin chatboard, I ran afoul of some of their members' unwritten etiquette guidelines in my newbie enthusiasm, and got roundly flamed for it by the self-appointed forum police. It stung a bit, but I got over it, and I learned a lot from some of the regulars over there. I've since found this to be a much bigger and better site, especially since it does have a B/S/T board like this (you can't sell on the eBay chatboards).
