Where did Mile High get all of those high grade Cracker Jacks?

Just got their next auction catalog in today. Was there some major untouched find of high grade Cracker Jack cards? Their first few pages are nothing but and I was wondering if there was a recent story behind them all or if they have just been stockpiling over the last few years.

I would guess that it is on consignment from an individual collector.

In the past when a really fine lot of 1915 8 and 9's come up, in the description it will usually be said that this was a mail-in offer set and thus isn't subject to all the problems that go with packaged CJ's.

edit to add: I do wonder about a 'find' other than a mailer set - when they look too good - have they been altered - bleached.

    Anthony is a copycat.

BTW -- anybody got any good recommendations for removing glue from cardboard?

    Thanks!
  • 1915 Cracker Jacks were available in factory set form via a mail in offer so it is not unheard of to find a nice selection of 1915 Cracker Jacks all at one time, even though they are from 1915. Bleached Cracker Jacks, the most common form of altering on these beauties is easily detectable by smell as well as the red backgrounds when hit with the bleach will become an almost pinkish color. Just a few tips hope these help.image

I think a more pressing question is where do the find the hacks that write their descriptions? I especially love the Mantle card ('52 Bowman, perhaps) that's presented in "satirical splendor." Huh? It's the Mick, not Jonathan Swift. Perhaps they meant "sartorial," but that word doesn't even fit the context well.

I swear, I love receiving auction catalogs almost as much for the romance-novel prose as for the cards themselves. MHCC's may very well take the cake in that regard.

  • Goofy descriptions or not, those PSA 10 Clemente's are unbeleivable (I think the 61 looks better than the 57)
