Sometimes it pays to get outbid...

I had the underbid on this card that ended on 4/27:

Yaz 1

A mere 4 days later I won this one for $305 less than the previous one went for:

Yaz 2

Thank God I got outbid! And by the way, I have no idea why I went so high on that first one to begin with. Of my 100+ PSA cards (all 9's and 10's), this is my first qualified card. The PD qualifier doesn't really bother me much at all though, so I'm happy to welcome Yaz aboard. A straight 9 on that card would be out of my league.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

I can understand why the first one went for a higher price, it looks much better than the second one - just kidding. It is the competitive nature in all of us that sometimes causes us to bid ridicolously sometimes. I know what you mean by 'thank goodness some one outbid me.' I have bid too high on items and later hoped someone would outbid me.

    Agreed!

There have been a few times when I've been the underbidder where I've had to ask myself "Are you nuts??? Why did I bid that much anyway????" and thats when I thank God for the competitive bidders!

Yeah, I remember I couple of times praying I would get sniped at the end...sometimes I bid on a card I already have, but I didn't realize it at the time.

I know exactly what Grillo is talking about. I think that last minute of the auction is ten times more horrible when you're praying for an outbid rather than hoping to hold onto the high price in an auction. There's always another one out there if you're patient.
