OT: Worm Threat on SBC

I rec'd an e-mail from SBC Yahoo (?) warning about a "worm threat" that could invade my Windows XP through the internet and showing me a link to download some sort of protection. It told me that if I didn't do that, I risk being cancelled by SBC, which put me on guard - I backed out and came over here to see if anybody else has gotten the same thing. Anybody know about this?

  • I got the smae message from SBc/Yahoo. If you read it carefully, it's just a warning about the worm and suggestions about how to avoid it: use a firewall, keep your microsoft patches up to date, update your antivirus software, etc. The warning about having your account suspeneded refers to what could happen if you get the worm and spread it.

The basic user agreement for SBC DSL requires you to take reasonable precautions to avoid viruses, etc and gives them the right to suspend or terminate you if you don't.

EVERY Windows-based computer should have virus protection installed and active. It should be set to check for updated virus definitions every day. Macintosh users are less prone to viruses, but even for them it's still a good idea.
