1957 Topps BB - 100% But Not Done Yet!

Finally picked up the Clete Boyer rookie I needed to finish the set. It's the 9th place set with a 7.81 GPA, and my longer-term goal is to get it well over 8.0. This and my 1956 set are the two I'm most excited about and I plan on a steady upgrade program as I go along.

Steve

Edited to add that I've got lots of PSA 7 NQ 1957 commons if anyone needs some.

  • Congratulations! That's a great feeling isn't it? You'll be more relaxed as you upgrade. The big push was getting to 100%, it's icing to upgrade those 7's to 8's. Enjoy it to the fullest.

Steve> The 1957T Clemente PSA10 in Mile High's current auction would be a nice upgrade for your set image

Finishing that set in that grade is no easy task. Great work Steve.

Congrats. What a great set. I am wondering how you went about it. I am attempting the 1956 set in mostly 7, how long did this take and what do you suggest as far as attacking the task. I guess it doesn't really matter but did you jump on the hof's first and then go after the commons? Did you hold out for better prices or just grab whatever came available? Money is an issue with Me so I am trying to get the hof's first...I wonder if getting the commons is the hardest part........I am new to the world of graded cards so any info will help. I find my biggest challenge is sticking to just one set when there are SO MANY different ones out there. I has to take alot of SELF CONTROL!!!

Thanks all. I appreciate the comments.

Mike - Yep, that PSA 10 Clemente looks sweet, but I'll have to pass. I am however the previous owner of the PSA 10 1972 Kellogg's Clemente Brian has in the auction. I got my 1957 PSA 8 Clemente from Brian by using the K card as a trade in.

Perkdog - I started out as a player collector, not a set collector, so I had a core group of HOF'ers and other favorites for quite some time. I bought a large number of graded cards from a fellow board member this February however, and I have spent the time since completing and upgrading the rest of the set. I do have a fair number of PSA 7 commons available if you are interested. I have actually gotten a great deal of my cards directly from other board members, and that's how I was able to jump start my 1957's. Pay attention to the Vintage Trading Board in addition to this one, plus of course eBay, the auction houses, and dealers. I know that sound like a BGO (Blinding Glimpse of the Obvious), but it's the best road map I have to offer, since I rarely submit cards myself.
