Show strategy

Going to a smaller coin show this weekend. I want to be there when the doors open so I can see all of whats there. What other strategy can you all offer that has been good for you. I will be bringing a copy of the ANA Grading guide and a redbook. I am interested in the following pieces:

1. Trime
2. Columbia Commem
3. 2.5 dollar Indian

I realize I might get there and walk out a collector of early american indian wampum but I wanted to have objectives so that I was not impulse buying. Any other tips?

My strategy would be to hire Lucy as my agent to negotiate the best deals for me image

But I probably could not afford either her retainer or her advisory fees image

  • make a list of what you really want to buy, so you aren't 'wowwed' once there and jot down the estimated price you want/should pay. Don't bring more money than you want to spend. Watch your back when leaving, and don't travel alone if possible. Check your tires real good before leaving parking lot.

Get an idea of where the best dealers are for what you're looking for and beeline
straight for them. Avoid consulting lists and catalogs and make firm offers where
possible. After you hit the most likely dealers then methodically walk the entire floor
and don't be afraid to ask dealers for exactly what you want. Frequently they'll have
it out of sight or back at the shop. This is a great way to make contacts. Jot down
the names or locations of dealers who are too busy to interrupt so you can catch them
on a second walk of the floor. Look and act professional, and be as curteous as poss-
ible. On small purchases offers should be made in the form of cash in the exact amount.
