Bowers & Merena 5/4/04 Auction lots writeup is VERY SLOPPY and INACCURATE!

Take a look at the write of the 1875-S PCGS MS-64 $20!!

It is very inaccurate as it says that such coin is the finest known for the date. It is not.

In addition, the writeup is very porrly done. Very confusing.
A Collectors Universe poster since 1997!

You think that's bad, you should see the mess Heritage made of eBay.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

  • I checked yesterday to see if their lots were on Ebay or not. Says bowersandmerenagalleries is no longer a registered user. Looks like Spectrum paid 2 mil. for a mailing list and thats about it.

Well... they're not alone. I saw a Goldberg writeup yesterday where it stated that the certification companies weren't around when the Eliasberg coins were sold [a Gobrecht]. Didn't know that PCGS came into creation after 1997! image

It is not surprising. A lot of merchandise is coming to market. Turnover is great. Much is being sold at public auctions. The number and availability of experienced careful catalogers is not proportional to need. Cataloging and attributing was hard money in difficult times; now there are many other ways to survive and thrive in the coin business. Caveat. The good old days were not so good in this area also. You have to learn not to believe all that you read in this game.
