Very nice design on this 1906 Athens Olympic medal. I saw it yesterday and thought about bidding. Just checked again and the price has sure jumped. Ouch.
Collector of Fractional Gold; gold tokens from Canada, California, Alaska & other states; gold so-called dollars, and other oddball stuff.

    Beautiful!! Too bad I didn't see it as I would have gone higher! Olympic medals are a popular collecting theme and the bidding can get fast and furious for them. The Greeks don't seem to have been much into art medals as I see little evidence of them on eBay. This one was done by a Viennese medallist. Considering the central role Athens had in the Olympics, the 1906 medals are especially popular.
