Not being an advocate for ACG, but I wonder why it came back only a 64 if it was so clean? I mean that belies the typical ACG reputation doesn't it?

So what is the seller doing submitting coins to ACG in the first place??!! Looking for the plastic to sell to the unwary? Maybe it is perfect justice.

We've heard the same complaints (clean proof coins comng back with hazed fields and fingerprints) on here about PCGS too and they change more to destroy them. If it is "evidence" against ACG there is the same "evidence" against PCGS as well.

I was wondering why this guy would send a nice coin to ACG in the first place.

Oh Conder101, you didn't have to go there ya know.image This thread has nothing to do with PCGS so I am not sure why you brought them into it...image

Sense of fairness. I don't like ACG anymore than any other service, but they get a lot of sometimes somewhat unfair bashing for things that other services do as well but for which they are not held as greatly to task. Now no one wants their coins fingerprinted, but as i pit out PCGS is also guilty of the same offense but they charge more and hold your coins longer. Another examle is in the case of error labels. When ACG or other third tier service bungles one it is heald up as an example of their "incompetence". If PCGS or NGC does it hey are a curiosity, "possibly collectible", and "may bring a premium on eBay". It is a bit of a double standard, and while I uderstand why it occurs it still bothers me some so I bring attention to the double standard.

Conder101 is correct. The coins in the auctions look like they were submitted in vinyl flips and hazed over because of that. It has little to do with the grading services the coins are submitted to.

  • I agree with Conder101.

It seems that the eBay seller in this thread is not the sharpest tack in the wall. Consider these points:

    1) who would pay $7 to submit a $5 coin?
    2) who would submit any coin to ACG? (okay, maybe not dumb, but his motives could be questioned)
    3) perhaps he dipped the coins BEFORE submitting them and they changed in the holder.
