I'm glad Donruss isn't of the mind to profit from the jersey. But 4000 jerseys every 4 months? Can that be right? They aren't even a 4-sport company. No wonder GU stuff is in the dumper.
WANTED: 2005 Origins Old Judge Brown #/20 and Black 1/1s, 2000 Ultimate Victory Gold #/25 2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9 Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
I think Donruss saw the value from a customer relations standpoint. Can you imagine how bad it would look for them if they made cheap GU cards from that jersey? This was a smart move on their part.
I don't buy it, these companies are all greedy. Im sure that Tillman jersey was in the "jerseys that would never sell" box! So if Arod died tomorrow they would donate all the jerseys they paid big time for? I doubt it. Choosing to not cut up a jersey of a player than many people have never even heard of until a few days ago isn't a big deal for donruss. It actually makes me sick that they would come out with this story! Was anyone actually sitting on the edge of their chairs wondering if the card companies were going to cut up old Tillman shirts?
There are much bigger things in the world than this, women and children being killed everday, sick *ucks thinking up some death cloud. Donruss only did this for one reason...PR, why even mention you had the jersey? It wasn't news two weeks ago...just do the right thing and donate it, don't turn it into some kind of PR stunt for your company. They never even made a card of the guy, the jersey would of still be sitting there in 30 years!
RIP Pat, We must look pretty silly from up there talking about how noble DLP is? If people only knew what noble was.

Kevin With the hope that people do essentially good, I have to agree on this one. It looks like the Donruss Spin Doctors were at work. But ya gotta praise Rookie, Envoy and the others for seeing the "good" side of the intent. BTW, may I say you are in rather good form this day! Mike
All good points, but before we totally sell Donruss' gesture short, just think:
WWUDD?
(what would Upper Deck do?)
Of course Donruss is out to make money like any other card company, but I think the announcement was at least partly due to the barrage of auctions MS posted about earlier. Of course Donruss got some good PR by doing what they did - but they also made the more subtle point that much greedier people on eBay are missing, which is that this is about the tragic loss of life, not profit. They weren't saying "gee, aren't we great for what we did," but rather quietly yet forcefully made it clear even for-profit companies should draw the line somewhere ...
Just IMO, Robert
P.S. Wasn't it really ESPN that made this such a big story? If some local paper in TX covered it and that was all, wouldn't the gesture still be just as meaningful? I don't see why anyone should give Donruss crap for actually doing the right thing, simply because a news agency decided to make it a major story.
Upper Deck would use that one jersey to produce an entire set - the 2004 Upper Deck American Hero Collection
$500 per pack limited to 2,500 packs (sorry, that's all we can squeeze out of one jersey) each pack contains one Tillman game used jersey card look for patch versions limited to 400 copies! logo patch versions limited to 25! NFL logo patch version 1 of 1! also randomly inserted are George W. Bush autographs limited to 25! Bush/Cheney dual autographs limited to just 5! 25 lucky collectors will also receive an oversized box topper card containing actual Afghan sand! 5 of them will be the extremely rare sand/bullet casings combo versions!
Dully said that he believed that one game-used jersey could sell at auction for at least $25,000, and if inserted into packs as a lure to collectors, the Tillman game-used cards could lead to as much as $4 million in incremental sales over a three-year period.
and that is for this single jersey... and they have Thousands of them...
No wonder they slice and dice the history of the game up into cards! They can't afford not to at those prices!
