SMR vs. Beckett-What Gives???

Can anyone tell me why there is such a glaring difference between the values of graded cards in these two publications? I was looking at values for the 1975 Topps Set in the May issues of SMR and Beckett. I looked at the value for a PSA 9 Mint Yount #223. The May SMR has the value at $360 while the May Beckett has the value between $600.00 and $800.00 (and on the rise I might add). Why the big difference in value? There's probably a million other scenarios just like this across all sports but it doesn't make much sense to me.

if your buying bring along the SMR
if your selling show the beckett.....

I think that the SMR is behind as I have seen certain Mars attacks cards go for 2K and 3K and are listed at 250.00

The Beckett is in the sole business of reporting card prices and I think will hype certain issues more.

other then that your guess is as good as any
    Good for you.
  • give Beckett a break on this one, their main price guide motive is for tracking modern cards. PSA can't seem to make the SMR accurate, and vintage is their specialty

Beckett has had a Yount euphony. Just like Nomo and other, they get wind of a certain player having
a signficant player base and they go hog wild on the pricing. Im not sure about vintage, but many of
Yount's autographs and unique cards command a premium. Im not sure why anyone who use
beckett for vintage when it seems like everyone goes by SMR. Its kind of like tuff stuff...no one
goes by the prices, but its a nice guide to look at.
