Getting rid of that sour taste...

I've heard more than a couple people mention that recent events have
left them somewhat disenchanted with the hobby. Card doctoring has
been going on for a long time, and it will continue, but as a collector
you always hate hearing about it. In many ways, the existence of 3rd
party grading has now made card doctoring more profitable than ever
(assuming you can pass it by the graders).
One way I'm able to keep my sanity as a collector is to pull out my
low grade cards and get back to the basics -- just look at 'em and
enjoy 'em. I like a high-grade card as much as the next guy, but
because of my budget some of my favorite cards are lowly PSA 3's. Plus,
since they're only graded VG, they've most likely never been restored.
Feel free to post scans of your low grade beauties.
This Cobb appears to be EX, but if you hold the card at an angle you
can see two very small surface wrinkles to the right of Ty's head.
Can't believe this card didn't at least grade VG-EX, but I'm not
complaining because the PSA 3 price saved me a few hundred bucks.
There is a very minor diagonal indentation near the upper right corner,
but no creases or wrinkles. Best portrait in the set, IMO.
No creases or wrinkles. I'm half-tempted to crack this out and resubmit,
but I'll probably only do that if I need to sell it some day.
Ahhhhhhhhh... that's better!

I built this last week, hit the safety deposit for some low grade gems, and suddenly the wall looks a little cheerier. Sorry for the link, can't seem to get a picture to post.
wall decor
After all the drama of the last week it's nice to look at a few items that are too well handled to have been restored.
Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's
Now those are PSA 3s with some great eye appeal! Very nice indeed!
The autograph is a lot stronger in person than what shows up in the scan.
I was afraid I'd have to settle for some off-brand Stengel autographed card. Sure it's beat up, but I love it.

While they aren't slabbed (yet), they are both PSA/DNA certified:
It's beat to holy hell (PSA 2 if I'm lucky), but how much cooler does it get than to have an authentic Sandy Koufax Autographed Rookie card? I'll tell you...
having an authentic Satchell Paige autographed rookie card.

Jay, my wife has been staring at the wall too- but I'm sure your not shaking your head and plotting your next trip to the mall in revenge!

This thread has been quite appropriate for what I've been going through lately... with every other post being of the somewhat negative nature, I've gotten tired of checking the boards in the past few weeks, which is sad.
I'm hoping it's another phase I'm going through, but I'm tired of the whole graded card market and it's future prospects. I've said it before and come back so hopefully I will. In the next few weeks, I'm probably going to be listing a bunch of the stuff I've picked up in the last few months since I've moved in. Time to move on.
With that said, anyone interested in about 80 well centered PSA 5 1950 Bowman baseball commons? I've got some 6s as well as a Snider 6 I'll probably post on eBay eventually.
I'll also probably give up my pursuit of my "#1" card set #1s
Let me know if you're interested in any of those (35DS Grove PSA 3, 48B Bsktball #1 Calverley PSA 6, 48L #1 Dempsey PSA 6, 48L #1 Joe DiMaggio PSA 5, 49B baseball #1 Bickford PSA 5.)
See ya.
Griffins - How long did it take to make that display? Also, how is it attached to the wall? That is very attractive and topped by the Topps Giants box as well.
These are my favorite types of posts. Thanks again for the looks at the great cards.

Don't let the riff-raff eat your soul! There is still much fun to be had. Just watch out for ther potholes in the road!

not mine, but start drooling
It didn't take that long- probably 90 minutes, plus 2 hours in line at Home Depot! It took me weeks thinking about it, and how much I space I needed. To be honest, I sort of ripped of BKAH's display (thanks for the inspiration Jeff). Once I decided to make it it went very quickly.
Since cards and empty boxes don't take up much weight it was pretty simple mounting it- just put about 9 long screws into the studs. It really felt like it would've held with 3-5, but since this is earthquake country I overkilled it. In retrospect I would'nt have made it nearly so deep.
Nick-
no chance of that, I modified the lojack in her car so she can't go past Fa Hill Mall.

Nice Zeenut- is that a '12 or one of the early ones? Do those have tabs as well? Do you have a scan of the Arbuckle, Hooper, or Fred Mullen you could post?

The Peckinpaugh is 1911 -- that year didn't have coupons. I am only holding the Peckinpaugh until a Yank's fan will step up to the plate and buy it...
These are the only other zeenuts I own all sans coupons --
Here is my favorite zeenut card (unfortunately I don't own it )
